Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread

Well, I went with the Samsung 50" DLP HDTV Rear Projection widescreen (S5086W). Got the set itself for $1489 since I had some other things thrown in (i.e. the $90 Toshiba DVD player for $59). All-in-all I'm pretty happy. It's being delivered Wednesday. Thanks everyone for the input. I'm sure I'll be back needing some help tweaking the setup (and I'll be signing up for AVSforum as well).

OK - I am trying to make the HDTV Plunge. On a budget.

This will mainly be for gaming, in a small office. Really about 2-4 feet view distance. It will be replacing a 20" JVC SDTV.

I have been looking at some of the low-end CRTs, but they're just so damn big and heavy. I think - with the idea that this first HDTv will probably wend it's way through the house as upgrades happen - that I'd prefer LCD.

So I was at best buy today, and this set stood out. The picture quality was the best of the small-ish LCDs, and it was showing fooyball and I saw no ghosting.

      Insignia™ 27" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

I know this isn't the world-beater of sets, but am I headed for any serious issues here? Like I say, mainly 360 gaming and some Media Center.

        Hey guys,

I have 65 inch HD tv (I've had for 7 yrs), but I'm having problems with the video. At times, the picture just goes black, but I still have audio. I contacted the store and they said it will cost $150 to see what the problem is and then add additional cost to fix the problem. Have any of you guys had a problem like this before and if so what was the cost?

        Thanks

I would double check the response rate on this set. Response rate helps with lagging & ghosting during gameplay. I couldn't find the response rate for this set online.

Yeah - nothing at BB, nothing here, and since it seems the set's pretty new, there's nothing at the AVS Forums.

I'm looking for something under 16ms, right?

Nor can I find what resolutions it would support - just that it's 1366 x 768.

You want at least 8ms and under.

Fossen, as EG posted 8ms is the NORM, on LCD's. As for the resolution. 768x1366 is good. That resolution should be available via your 360 when connected thru a VGA Cable.

If you chose to go Component your 360 should be set @ 720p

It does not have a VGA hookup, wierdly enough. It uses RGB for PC connections.

Tx for the info, though, I'll set it to 720.

Hey guys, I'm looking to build the ultimate HD experience. I have always had 2 tv's side by side since I was in college (now 30) and I want to continue this tradition but I want to upgrade to HD. I want to get a 60 inch and then a 32 inch to hang on the wall. My wall is only about 37 inches long so I want to be able to have enough room to hang the TV.

I will also be buying a new receiver along with surround sound with a sub.

This project is not going to be cheap and I have been saving for it since the beginning of the year. It looks like everything is gonna come close to 10 g's. I know that sounds crazy but I've been saving like mad and I'm about halfway there. I'm thinking of financing the rest with 0% APR for 18 MTHS at Tweeter.

Below is everything I'm thinking about getting. However, I would love for Johnny and any other experts to weigh in and let me know your thoughts. This board has really helped me alot in my research. Thanks in advance:....

Well, one thing I wouldn't do, buy 2 of the same TV manufactor, otherwise everytime you change one channel, the other is going to change. Since you can't really do 2 HD cable boxes for the same reason, one's going to need to be a OTA antenna or a cable card.
