Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread

Seriously thinking of getting a Sharp LC 37D62U Aquos LCD flat panel and was wondering if anyone knew anything about this TV.

Can you et 1080p with the XBOX 360 if you're using component hook-ups and not HDMI? Thanks.

What about any motion blur with the fast moving sports action? I've heard that dlp is the best way to go with eliminating motion blur.

Hey, I have not noticed any motion blur at all! I've watched baseball, football, and soccer over the past couple weeks, and all look GREAT (well except soccer because its in standard definition, but still no motion blur).

I didn't even consider DLP when looking at TVs, so I don't know if DLP is best for this. But I do know, having seen it first hand, that with my friend's LCD, there was a touch of motion blur. Not bad, but still is there. My plasma, none. And I am so happy with it.

Only "negative" with plasmas is the threat of burn-in. It can still happen in the first 200 hours of a new TV, so you have to be careful. But I read that after that point, you don't have to worry about it. So far, I have noticed no burn in from scoreboards or tickers on the bottom.

        Thanks,

Yeah, my soccer on FSC looks shaky but that's because it's SD on a bigger tv....no way around that, and it's still pretty good, just notice it a bit

I wonder if FSC has any plans to start broadcasting in HD?

I have the 46" Aquos. I got it from Costco in April, so it came with the speaker upgrade. Anyways, great tv and yes I use Component with my 360 and get 1080p.

The Aquos are regularly rated at the top, but the only thing to watch out for is vertical banding. Sometimes adjusting your color settings can remove the banding, sometimes not. Mine has never had an issue though.

Just upgraded to 1080p this afternoon while out at Circuit City. Been eyeing the 50'' Samsung DLP 1080p for awhile. Got the TV, and a Xbox 360 w/Table Tennis for a hair under $1700 thanks to a 10% coupon I got hooked up with from a friend. It'll be delivered Monday, just in time for Bioshock on Tuesday, and just in time for the football season to start.

Use the VGA input for the best 360 picture. That is the TV I have and it's noticeable going from the components to the VGA.

I'll definately give them a shot, since I got an official set of MS VGA cables laying around collecting dust. I can't wait for Monday to get here now.

I mentioned it in a few of the gaming threads already, but I've finally gone HD....sorta. 19' Phillips LCD - I have some rather small living space, so anything bigger than that wasn't really an option. The "sorta" part comes in because I don't have HD cable service yet, and probably won't for awhile. But even then, the SD picture is so much sharper and clearer than the ancient TV I was using. Even the TV's internal tuner gets the channels so much clearer than the cable box can provide.

That's not to say I won't be having HD images on it...I plan to make full use of my PS3 with this TV purchase. I picked up an HDMI cable along with it, and am currently enjoying The Show and others in 720/1080p. To say I'm blown away would be a gross understatement.

Watching a Blu-Ray disc is next on the list, but I haven't found one for rental that I was particularly interested in yet...

Ended up getting my new TV today, instead of waiting on them to deliver it tomorrow. After spending several hours putting together a TV stand, unhooking the wires, and rerunning them I'm beat. Now I'm trying to tweak the settings, any of you guys have any recommendation for my Samsung?

Is this a problem with the VGA input, or is there a setting on the tv that I need to change? If it's the tv, should I exchange it or is this something that can be easily fixed?

It turned out that the problem I was having was due to the fact that I had neglected to change my Xbox 360's output to match the native resolution of the Vizio. I had previously been using my 360 with the same Gateway 19" w/s monitor I use for my pc, and had the resolution set at 1280x720. Once I switched the 360's output to 1360x768, everything was copacetic.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

                            Anyone have the Panasonic 42PX77U?

Great price at Sears right now and I was thinking of purchasing this week.

Bottom line, this Sony, properly adjusted, produced the best LCD flat panel HD image the HD Guru™ has seen to date. A number of factors are responsible. This panel creates some of the deepest blacks and the best contrast ratio seen on an LCD display. The Samsung/Sony SPVA LCD panel it uses, is, in the HD Guru™’s opinion, is the best LCD panel in the industry. Within the LCD category, the HD Guru™ awards the KDL-46XBR4 ♥♥♥♥.

However, compared to other flat panel HDTVs, regardless of technology, the rating drops down to ♥♥♥, simply because the best plasma TVs produce better images, with better reds, wider viewing angles, and significantly better motion detail and usually for less money!
