Yep. Definitely HDMI. Under $10 everyday. Composite cables on a HDTV is like having a Ferrari and only going 15mph in a 70mph zone. Unleash the beast.

Component cables is the lowest you want to go on a HDTV.

Short answer: Yes; Compsite cables is basically eliminating the HD from a HDTV.
Here is the order from least desired to optimum:
        Composite.......S Video.....Component....VGA....HDMI

HDMI is nice b/c it gives you digital video and audio all in one cable. Definitely better than having a bunch of wires.

Note: Component and VGA are comparable, but VGA allows you to hook the tv up as a monitor. VGA is needed if you want to upconvert regular DVDs on a 360 or get 1080p output without having HDMI.

get any and all cables from a website like www.monoprice.com

Brick and mortar stores will try to sell you expensive brands like Monster, when it's not needed. $10-12 is all you need to spend on a HDMI cable.

Edit: Just realized you said PS3...get the HDMI.

Friends don't let friends buy Monster cables. Digital signals are all or nothing...you get NO benefit from a $100 set vs. $10 set besides giving away $90. But no, you don't need anything else b/c HDMI does digital video and audio.

If you're hooking up just HDTV to PS3 via HDMI you don't need anything else.

If you're going to use a surround sound system that doesn't support HDMI, the next best option is a optical cable for digital sound. Again composite (Red&white) are your last option.

Don't know if this goes here, but we'll see...

Just got an Insignia 26" LCD today and was looking to buy some speakers for it tomorrow, realtively cheap (around 150 would be preferred) so I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for it?

Not a bad little system, my cousin bought these and uses them in his dorm room and loves them.

You can hire a professional to calibrate the TV, but that's costly. A professional calibration runs around $300-$400. I had it done about a year ago and it was excellent.

Or you can use a DVD. AVIA and DVE Essentials are the two big ones. Basically the DVD's run you through a series of calibrations (ie: changing color, brightness, contrast, sharpness etc...). Much cheaper than a professional, but still does a good job.

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread

A question for those in the know.

I am finally going to dip into the world of HDTV's, but I have a question that no one around me seems to have an answer for.

While I would like to go a little bigger, my current entertainment system is set up for a 32" television (although, it works well because my wife and I sit about 6'-8' away from the TV). Is it worth while to spend a little bit more money for a 1080p television over a 720p? Or is the size (or lack thereof) going to make the difference negligible? What 32" systems would some of you recommend?

Price is not really an issue here, but I do want to get the most bang for my buck.

As always, thanks for the help.
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am finally making the switch to HDTV for my 360. Do I need to change any settings on my 360 once it is hooked to the HDTV? Thanks!

I'm assuming your 360 does not have HDMI connection, since you've had it a while. There is a switch on the 360 AV cable, move that to HD and plug the 3 component cable (red, blue, green) into the TV for video. On the xbox 360 dashboard, go into video settings and set it to widescreen and an HD resolution 720 or 1080, matching the resolution of your HDTV is usually best.

                              Okay...

...after I posted all this DLP talk I decided to upgrade and get a 47" Phillips LCD 1080p HDTV...

                              ...my question is -

...I am getting ready to hook it up in my room (I am in college and don't have HD available right now and won't until I get out of college)

..so, I am basically just using it for my PS3 games & Blu-Ray movies --so do I really need an HDMI cable right now (SINCE I DON'T HAVE High-Definition)????????????
