    Re: Official OS Book Club

I don’t know if I'm the only one who does this but I always seem to be reading numerous books at one time.

Listening to the The Bad Place by Dean Koontz in the car. Reading from a Buick by Stephen King in the bathroom, Uncle Sams Plantation by Star Parker at work, and The Davinci Code with my wife.

Just finished listening to Hideaway by Koontz and reading White Guilt : How Blacks and Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Era by Shelby Steele.

I've never been a fan of the books on tape thing. Reading the book myself, I am able to get into the book much more than I would if I were just listening to somebody read it.

I liked Deception Point, but not as much as the two Langdon books. I was kinda disappointed in Deception Point, but I credit that to the fact that it was his first book.

The last two books I finished were State of Fear by Crichton and The Bourne Supremacy by Ludlum. Going to start reading The Bourne Ultimatum as soon as I can get around to it, and I'm also halfway through Time Enough for Love by Robert Heinlein (been too busy to read on a consistent basis).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure nothing is going to top Angels and Demons for me.

The Bourne Ultimatum was a great book, in my opinion. Loved reading that...might read it again this summer, actually.

I'm reading "Under and Alone" by William Queen. It's about a government agent infiltrating a dangerous motorcylce gang. I'm almost finished with it, and I highly reccommend it to anyone interested in true crime.

I just finished the second book of an ongoing series about a wizard who works as a detective in Chicago. The books are by Jim Butler and they are surprisingly addictive. Good, fun escapism. Some bad words here and there.

I also just discovered David Gemmel's work. He writes gritty fantasy novels with great battle scenes and pretty darn good characters. His work is similar to George R. R. Martin's.

I have also recently read the first two Frankenstein novels by Dean Koontz. I liked them a lot and can't wait for the finale.

                  Its a great read.
About 80% done with the book as of now...and I would recommend to anyone. Amazing read.

Yeah 3 nights in August was the last book I read. I was a very interesting book really dove into the mind of Tony Larussa. Even though I can't stand the guy he is a very good baseball mind.

                        bump.

I recently read Fight Club, good book, I think the Marla character in the book is much better, other than that the movie is surprisingly similar to the book, many of the same memorable quotes too. They changed some sequence of events, but I have no complaints about that.

Currently reading The Bourne Identity, a really action-packed book. I'm hooked on it, it has been a while since I've seen the movie, but the book seems quite a bit better thusfar. I will probably go straight to the second Bourne book when I finish this one.

I'm not really an avid reader, I'm pretty picky about what I read and I usually don't read on my free time other than forums (duh), novels for school, and magazines. But right now I'm reading a book called Wild at Heart by John Eldredge.

It's an excellent book, I would recommend it to any guy first off, and then to any woman. It's basically a book that describes guys, a lot of man talk. It explains the basis of our instincts, of our make up, and why we act certain ways. A lot of it hits you in the head like "duh, how come I never thought of that?" Some of it's stuff you may have observed but never said anything because you were unsure about your opinion.

It also discusses how society has really limited the characteristics of manhood and essentially attempted to turn us into women by deeming what we innately desire to do naturally as unacceptable behavior. It also has a pretty neat section on how the church has really deformed the perception of a man. Contrastingly though, it does parallel with some Bible verses and it does address issues on how everyone thinks Jesus was a pansy because he always did what was right and would never "fight."

It's about 240 pages but a really easy read, also a pretty good bathroom reader because each chapter is around 10-20 pages and split up into different sections with headings.

I've read three books in the last 4 weeks, which is by far the most I've read in about 6 months. I read:

                            The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
                            Fight Club
                            Casino Royale

This week I have exams, do I won't do much (if any) reading, but next week I'm hoping to dive right into Finn - sounds like a great book and explores some dark places that Twain restricted himself from.

I just finished Lance Armstrongs It's not about the Bike: My journey back to Life. It was good read.

I've also read Next Man Up, I thought that was a great book that would interest any hardcore football fan. It was awesome to get to look at the football season from such an indepth perspective seeing how much goes on in the off season and in all the week to week stuff. Plus also cool to get a brief history on all the Ravens players that year.

I haven't read DaVinci Code, doubt that I will since with novels I'd usually prefer to watch the movie, but I did read Angels and Demons a year ago and agree with everyone else that it was outstanding.

One sports book that hasn't been mentioned that I really liked was Runnin' Rebel by Jerry Tarkanian I really liked all the recruiting talk in that one. It made me really want to read a book about college football that goes in depth on the recruiting.

That was a pretty good book. A slightly "different" twist on the whole zombie genre.

The first 6 pages of that were INSANE, in the sense that it didn't take any time getting the action started.
