first listen through Hi-Teknology vol. 2, not impressed. Second listen was better.

I feel bad for Hi-Tek that he did such amazing work on Reflection Eternal/Train of Thought. It's like if a hitter in baseball was sooooo good his rookie year they made him start every at-bat at 0-1 for the rest of his career.

Thought it was a great album....beats are all solid (except for maybe "March") and guest apperances are good. The last two songs are my favorites......

        Artist: Hall of Justus
        Album: Soldiers of Fortune
Producers: Big Dho; Erv; 9th Wonder (2); Khrysis (9); Fatin; Majik; Nottz; Black Jeruz; E. Jones; Buckwild

It could have been better. I for one, expect better, but there are good signs following this collabo of the Hall of Justus team. For one, Hip-Hop's rookie of the year candidate Skyzoo who is very much a part of the H.O.J. has the unique recognizable voice. You can tell when he's on the mic, and that's important. Some of the things that hurt this cd a bit (an album that could have easily been put together to equal an A+ with all the disposable talent), was the overexcessive use of the phrase H-O-J. It got incredibly annoying. Another thing that boggled my mind, was the limited time Little Brother recieved on the album. I thought the point of these posse collaboration albums were to push the product, which would require throwing your strongest act out there for a majority of the plays. Even 9th Wonder only produced two tracks. The album starts off slow, but as the time progresses, the album gets more and more enjoyable to listen to. I was a bit disappointed, because my expectations were high, but a B+ isn't something you throw in the trash. You actually listen to it, which is what I'll be doing.

Agreed, I definitely would have like to here more from Phonte.

          a few more points

          - The hooks on most of the songs are pretty weak. The sick verses on "Keep it to the Side" are absolutely ruined by a ****ty chorus, and the beat is pretty weak too.

          - Chaundon's voice makes me want to blow my brains out, especially on the song "1NE"

          - "Jus Chillin" is one of the best songs on the album; hot beat, sweet chorus(good use of the chopped lyrics), adequate verses

-Other favorite tracks are "Life of the Party", "Basic"(no hook = + IMO), and like you, I think the album really picks up with the last half.

Good effort, not great, but I did figure that the would try to push the less known guys(Skyzoo, Jozee Mo, etc.)

I absolutely agree with all of your points too... I like Joe Scudda's solo track, I think the beat was done pretty well... but you are right... every hook is pretty much garbage, except for a song like "Life of the Party".... but man what the heck... it needed to be better.

              Re: fans of underground rap?

Just found of that Talib is coming out with a new album, "Ear Drum" on Nov. 7 this year. Seems like he really ran a tight ship this time by not allowing anything to leak besides the song "Listen".

After his last two albums, I don't know what to expect. I liked Beautiful Struggle and Right About Now but not as much as Reflection Eternal and Quality. It seems like he's taken as many peventive measures as necessary from this album leaking, like Beautiful Struggle did. I hope he's reaching for greatness with this album, but I feel like it might just be another collection of tracks over some pretty good beats (not that I can complain about that).

I used to be a big Talib fan for some reason but I really can't stand him now. Mos killed him on every track they did together.

And his song Listen, I just really cannot stand. Him and Mos need to put out another joint album already.

Out of each of their respective solo efforts, I think Mos' "Black On Both Sides" was the best out of the bunch.

Predicted ... ALBUM of the YEAR

I'm calling it now, and I'm mostly speaking for myself on how I'll probably percieve it, but I know everyone is going to enjoy this cd. I think this will take the prize when it comes to the yearly awards we put out. Well, here it is:

                      Artist: Sean Price
                      Album: "Jesus Price Supastar"
Producers: Khrysis; Tommy Tee; 9th Wonder; Illmind; PF Cuttin; Moss
                      Release Date: November 21st

Reason: Sean P!!! returns! The critically acclaimed artist from Boot Camp Clik and the duo Heltah Skeltah is back and broker than ever. Let's just say this guy has the best voice in rap. Sean P!!!

He is also hooking up with the illest collection of producers in 9th Wonder, Khrysis, and Illmind. Also returning are PF Cuttin & Moss who helped push his first solo album "Monkey Barz" over the top and ended up earning Sean Price awards from Source Magazine. More than ever, the Boot Camp Clik crew is going to guys like 9th and Khrysis to fill out their albums. The liking they have taken to these producers has been very apparent, as these very producers are appearing more and more on these albums.

There goes X*Cell again... rambling about producers. Well, let me tell you who is featured on this upcoming album. Buckshot! Sadat X! PHONTE COLEMAN! Joe Scudda! Rock from Heltah Skeltah! and a couple others.

I just don't see any reason to not buying this cd. So I won't try to list any, because it would probably take me up to release date to figure something out. Album of the Year in the Fans of Underground Rap thread? Possibly... wait... PROBABLY!

The only thing that might keep it from getting 2006 Fans of Underground Rap awards would be that it gets released on its rumored January 2007 release date.

That's some big hype man, I actually have yet to listen to any Sean Price so I have no idea if I like him or not.

aside from the Talib album, I'm really anticipating the Lyrics Born live album. new studio tracks with Del and Pigeon John, it's a must buy for me.

what do you guys know about Celph Titled? I'd never heard of him, but I see on hiphopsite he's got a 4 disc album coming out, seems extremely ambitious.

Whoa another Sean Price album? can't wait. "Monkey Barz" was one of the more polished albums I've listened to recently. Production was solid, lyrics were outstanding. Isn't that release date the same as Jigga's? hehe
