    Re: Casino Royale...the new Bond

I am a huge Bond fan and have been thoroughly disappointed with the last two additions to the franchise. I read the novel the movie is based off by Ian Flemming a few weeks ago, and by the early reviews it seems like the director/writers stayed with the dark tone of it. Which is a good thing.

I'll definitely be going to see it this weekend.

I'm a huge fan too and won't let the weekend go by without being in the theater. I'll be going with my dad since he got me into the series and we've seen all of them together. If they can take the series back to its roots, I'll be ecstatic. Die Another Day was so "big" in so much that they did that if they try to outdo the effects, it'll completely abandon the spy element that made Connery's era the best.

I read they hired the guys who did the special effects in the Bourne series. They wanted a more realistic look with all the stunts and special effects. Very little CGI was used.

I will see this flick by next thursday at the latest. I want to see it this weekend but I don't know if i'll get a chance to.

I just can't wait to see this film and I truly hope it revitalizes the Bond franchise.

LMAO, Kev hates having to watch his sister, you reminded me of him right there.

"My name is Bore, James Bore."

Somebody shoot me. An opening foot chase scene that was one of the best I've ever seen and I was thinking, man the action is going to be great. Then the movie settles into one big bore, Bond falling in love. By the time the "climactic" end comes you don't care. My wife fell asleep. A looooooooooooong boring movie.

                    Really disappointed in this.

Wow, I think you're way off on this one. This is the best Bond movie I've seen in years. I really liked Goldeneye, but the rest after that were really lacking in any kind of intrigue, and they just were too insubstantial.

This movie easily trumps those movies, and it's an even better movie than Goldeneye, IMHO. I loved the action in this movie, it's brutal. And the poker tournament was really fun to watch as well. I've fallen asleep in past Bond movies, but I didn't fall asleep at all during this one, nor was I ever drowsy.

The movie does have several points where you think it might end but it just keeps going, but given the movie's quality and how much fun it was, I was glad it kept going until the actual end.

Let me preface my post by saying that I didn't enjoy Brosnan, Moore, or Dalton as Bond. I saw Casino Royale today and it's the most enjoyable Bond movie since OHMSS in my opinion. Craig did a great job and while I have to see two or three more with Craig in them, but right now I'd place him after Connery for sure. He did a great job and I loved that it was a throwback type movie. It reminded me a lot of the "Connery" Bond movies with less gadgets and a lot of substance. Fantastic movie and here's hoping that EON and the Broccolis stick to this formula. I'd also love to see a two to three film arc with a villain of Blofeld's stature. We need another Blofeld type villain for Bond to go against.

yeah I'm going to have to agree, he's way off on that one... I LOVED THIS MOVIE! Craig as Bond was just sick, he wasn't slick or smooth, and played it perfectly...

Easily my favorite Bond I've seen in many many years... You'd be doing yourself a disservice to pass this one up, for action fans and Bond fans alike this one is top notch!

What action? The opening scene was tremendous. I've never seen such ingenuity, best chase (foot pursuit) I've ever seen, bar none. I was wondering how many takes they had to do to get all that right (and how many stunt men were killed, lol). There was the tanker thing and then nothing until the very end, nada.

My wife usually only falls asleep when I'm trying to get affectionate with her, so explain her falling asleep?

What about the whole hand fight on the stairs? Or the whole thing after the drink? Both actions spot, albeit not big things but they were both fast paced scenes... I thought the whole thing was filled with action, and had quite a few spots where I actually jumped because it was so quick and exciting.. to each their own though..

I will say this movie has possibly the best quote ever in a movie..."the last thing you ever did on this earth was scratch my balls..." (You'll get it once you see it!)

This movie is scoring huge on IMDB right now an 8.1...

As for the wifey thing lol... I can't help you there LOL... Maybe Craig wasn't sexy enough for her?

I loved the movie, but like I said earlier to each their own.

I haven't seen the movie (i'm going on Tuesday) but if what you say is true then i'm going to really enjoy this. I'm making a leap in logic by assuming that it's also true to the tone of OHMSS as well right? If that's the case then I can see why action oriented folks might not like it as OHMSS was by far the most intellectually stimulating and most fleshed out Bond film ever. If this film lives up to that then it's going to easily jump up to my top 5 Bond films of all time.
