No, Vesper was working for the "Spectre like" organization that Le Chifre was only an accountant for. As you recall, Mr. White stated "we need to know who we can trust in the organization" before he killed him. There was also other clues throughout the movie. Le Chifre was only an accountant, Mr. White is an vice president type and their is a single, sole villain to the organization along the lines of Blofeld. So, Vesper was working for all of them in the attempt to get her boyfriend free. The only thing we don't know is if Mathis is bad. I don't think he is, but it could either way. Only two people other than Bond knew the tell, and we know for sure one of them was bad (Vesper). And the only information we have that suggest Mathis is bad is Bond believing he was (because he immediately and incorrectly ruled out Vesper) and Le Chifre stating that Mathis was his friend (which could be explained that he needed a scapegoat for Bond to believe Vesper was still loyal so he could use her as a pawn in the torture against Bond).

I thought when Bond told Vesper the tell, they were together the entire time prior to the winning hand?

Bond did tell Vesper the tell, and Mathis was right there also. So, one of those two had to have told Le Chifre about it so he could play Bond. Bond just assumed immediately that it had to be Mathis because he was in love with Vesper. Both Vesper and Mathis had opportunities to tell Le Chifre. The winning hand, however, had nothing to do with the tell or cheating. Bond simply outplayed him.

I think you're right about this. Like Bond says at the end, just because Vesper was guilty, it doesn't mean Mathis was innocent. The fact that Vesper's boss, Mr. White, ends up gunning down Le Chiffre makes it even more likely that Le Chiffre was working with Mathis, and the Vesper/White angle was something he didn't know about.

I don't know, but I'd like to see him return in any future movie.

the CIA cop character is named Felix Leiter. He's a Bond ally and has been in quite a few Bond movies (mostly the older films) I have a feeling he'll be in the next one.

I don't know how anyone can say this movie was boring. CR jumped into my top 5 Bond films of all time easily. So now i'm going to scattershoot some thoughts. There may be spoilers but I think most of us has seen this flick but just warning in case:

                    - The music was the best in a Bond film in YEARS. It was a character unto itself. I especially liked it during the airport scenes. The music did a great job of driving the story and point across.
I totally agree. I actually bought the CD right after seeing the film. I don't think it was quite as good as Tomorrow Never Dies, but it was really good It was also a nice change to have a theme song that didn't totally suck.

Speaking of the theme song/titles/etc., I like how (apparently) we now know who it was that has been pointing the gun at Bond for 43 years during the opening sequence.

                    - The love story was quite good with Vesper Lynd. I especially loved the conversation in the train where they analyzed each other. That little scene was a very Connery-esque scene IMO. Although Bond and Vesper fell in love it wasn't nearly as convincing as the love story in OHMSS but they did make a great couple.
I'm going to have to disagree (respectfully, of course) with you on this one. I thought the love story in OHMSS seemed rather poorly developed. Tracy really had no good reason to fall in love with Bond. The fact that her father was forcing it on her seems like it would have driven her away even more. With Vesper, you really got a sense of them coming together. Starting with the train scene, their bickering over Bond not taking his false identity seriously, the rather cute scene while they're getting ready for the poker game, and especially the shower scene, which really showed how much Bond had begun to care for her. Whether or not HER feelings were genuine towards the end or not, he definitely fell for her.

                      regarding the theme song:

It's not one of my favourites, in fact it's somewhere in the middle. The music is quite good but I didn't really like the singing.

The singing was a little off, but I loved how the theme was used throughout the score. It's not a favorite of mine either, but it's definitely better than most of the previous efforts (especially that tripe that Madonna wrote for the last film)

Is the theme song included on the soundtrack? The last time I checked the tracklisting, it wasn't on there. Does anybody know why?

Definitely one of the best themes of the series. I'm torn between Live and Let Die and A View to a Kill for my personal favorite though.
