You must have read a different book then I have. They used the bare bones of the story, but the majority was changed just like most the movies based on his books. In my mind at least, the best films are the one that closely follow the books. For example - Bond was never poisoned - Le Chiffre lackeys tried to shot him in the back at the Baccarat not poker table, there was never any tell Bond lost because he was beaten by a better player, Vesper didn't drown herself in an elevator, Bonds car crashed because of a chain of spikes in the road - not Vesper. The last line in the book was "The bitch is dead' it would have been a much better ending then what we got. I can go on and on if you wish

I'm fully aware of the relatively small changes that were made for the movie, but these changes didn't detract from the original storyline because the storyline is still essentially the same.

I rented this and enjoyed watching it. I liked how the start of the movie was an old classic style.

I saw this a couple nights ago, I thought it was very good. My girlfriend has watched it about 4 times since then, she's in love with it.

If I had the time, I would have probably watched it at least two more times since yesterday.

Are there any other movies Craig is in that are worth checking out?

I have these and would recommend these to anyone -
                      Layer Cake
                      Munich
                      The Jacket
                      Road to Perdition
Enduring Love - This is a different type of role, not sure anyone would like it. I thought it was decent.

                        Re: Casino Royale...the new Bond

Watched it tonite and while it's head and shoulders above any Bond movies since the Connery films it still tended to portray Bond as a superhero. It was a grittier film and he takes a beating in the film and has the marks to show it, but some of the fight scenes were comic bookish and some of the falls he takes would put mere mortals in traction for months. Case in point the stairwell scene during the cardgame where the 1st guy takes one fall and dies instantly but Bond and the other guy are taking multiple falls ten times worse and Bond walks away without even a limp.

I guess I just want Bond movies to get away from the PG rating entirely and make Bond a more believable character by making him more intense and graphic in a way where Bond is shown as stone cold dangerous and have you believe that he can kill at a moment's notice. With the man he fought in the truck he should have been able to dispose of instantly with Bond being a trained killer but I felt was prolonged just to show off a few stunts. The Connery films were good because they reflected the way films were made in the 60's but for a true modern adaptation these days I felt Casino Royale could have been darker.

I agree in that i'd like to see an R rated Bond flick it's just not going to happen. As for being even darker and grittier you run the risk of turning off the fanbase and making Bond your typical action hero. You have to also remember that Bond was created to be semi-realistic but flexible enough to appeal to the 15-34 male age demographic's ideal man. You know, the guy who has all the toys, women and visiting the most exotic locales on a whim. Bond can be gritty and be beaten up but he can't lose that debonair playboy type of personality as well. Bond is supposed to be every woman's wet dream not some cold, hard action hero who doesn't give a damn and would kill at a moment's notice.

I think CR did a great job of balancing some of what you wanted while keeping the spirit of Bond's alpha maleness.

                                Re: Casino Royale...the new Bond

I really enjoyed Casino Royale although I have one major issue with the film.
I thought Eva Green wasn't the right person for Vesper Lynd. She looks like she's about 20 years old while Daniel Craig looks like he's in his mid 40's. She looked too young to play Bond's love interest. It looked like a father/daughter duo to me and not bf/gf. I was distracted by this.

I loved the action sequence after the opening credits. That's the best foot chase I've ever seen. Casino Royale is a different Bond film because it doesn't have any real high tech gadgets. The movie was 2hrs and 20 minutes, although it didn't feel long. That's always a good sign.

Craig's signed on for 2 more Bond films so it will be interesting to see if the next films remain as gritty.

I have a suggestion for the next Bond girl. I would like to see Kate Beckinsale as the next Bond girl. She's really attractive and only a few years younger than Craig.

Despite having 90 minutes worth of extra's, a lot was still left out. We all know a double dip is going to happen before Bond 22 is released. I hope to see deleted scenes and a director commentary.

I did like the behind the scenes stuff on the action sequences. This was the first time I've ever heard of "free running". The history of the Bond girls was interesting.

                                Grade: B+
