One scene I loved, mainly because it reminded me so much of the older Connery films, was when he won the Aston Martin. One of the best (and biggest laugh) lines of the film: "Oh, and the valet ticket too, please"“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. I don't know if it was a favorite scene of mine, but it was very effective, and actually something straight out of the book.

Re: Casino Royale...the new Bond
Great Bond film. The franchise seems to be back on track. Criag is no Sean Connery, but then again who is. I really loved the novel and the changes the movie made were a little hard to take. But all in all a very good movie.
1) On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
2) From Russia With Love (1963)
3) Goldfinger (1964)
4) Dr. No (1962)
5) Licence To Kill (1989)
6) Thunderball (1965)
7) The Living Daylights (1987)
8) Casino Royale (2006)Comment

Finally, I'm not a big fan of Thunderball. Some of the film is good, but the underwater sequences really drag at times, and I really thought that Largo was miscast (and poorly written). The fact that the writers had to dream up Fiona Volpe says something.“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. Re: Casino Royale...the new Bond
This is easily one of the top 3 Bonds of all time.
Craig is going to be a GREAT Bond..much "edgier" and "darker" than any of the previous Bonds.

Craig is the perfect Bond, IMO. I had doubts when they named him, but not anymore. It helps that he is clearly the best actor to ever take on the role. Casino Royale gives me hope for Bond's future.
BTW, at one time Quentin Tarantino was trying feverishly to direct Casino Royale with his own script. Now THAT would have been interesting.NCAA: Michigan Wolverines

Re: Casino Royale...the new Bond
Holy Crap!
I don't know how anyone can say this movie was boring. CR jumped into my top 5 Bond films of all time easily. So now i'm going to scattershoot some thoughts. There may be spoilers but I think most of us has seen this flick but just warning in case:
- Craig has the look of a Connery but as others have said he makes the part his own. He doesn't quite have the gravitas but that's to be expected with this being Bond's first case. I love the way he looked in the tux and in that suit at the end of the film. So he already has the stylistic look to be Bond. He's going to definitely grow into the role IMO. If there's one drawback it's that his voice tends to get a little too raspy and hard to hear.
- The music was the best in a Bond film in YEARS. It was a character unto itself. I especially liked it during the airport scenes. The music did a great job of driving the story and point across.
- The villains were well developed or at least the most developed villains in a Bond film since the 70s IMO. I thought Le Chifre was interesting tho I didn't quite understand how he won the first time at the poker table. Can someone explain that?
- The love story was quite good with Vesper Lynd. I especially loved the conversation in the train where they analyzed each other. That little scene was a very Connery-esque scene IMO. Although Bond and Vesper fell in love it wasn't nearly as convincing as the love story in OHMSS but they did make a great couple.
- The torture scene was DAMN good but hard to watch. The dialogue reminded me a little bit of Goldfinger when Bond was strapped to the table by Goldfinger. It was very Connery-esque again.
- The ending of the film makes me wonder if we'll see the return of SPECTRE. I so badly want to see Blofeld re-imagined in a post 9/11 world. I don't know if it's possible legally but I think it COULD happen.
- to sum up I love the direction Bond is going in and I hope we see somewhat of a continuation to the Bond vs. terrorism vibe we're getting right now.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Casino Royale...the new Bond
Le Chifre's inside man (the older British guy at the hotel with Bond) told Le Chifre that James had figured out his tell, which was covering the twitch of his eye when he bluffed. Le Chifre put up his tell, although he wasn't bluffing, and Bond bit. Thats how Le Chifre won the first hand.
As for the ending of the film, I for one, loved it very damn well. Just the look and the delivery of "the line" was chilling and I can't wait for the next one with Craig. I'm hoping I can see this one again as I really enjoyed the film.

Actually, it is a stronger case that Vesper told him the tell. We still don't know if Mathis is a bad guy because Vesper was feeding information to Le Chifre. Even when Le Chifre told Bond that Mathis was "his friend," it still may not be true because he needed Bond to not suspect Vesper so he could get the password.
Regardless, great choice for Bond, Felix, and everything was perfect.
Setting up "Spectre" was unbelievable. I cannot wait for the next one.Comment

Re: Casino Royale...the new Bond
I thought the only bad guy Vesper had helped was the guy who had killed Le Chifre and thus left Bond alive rather than killing him.
