Catwoman has improved marginally from its horrible debuts. Winick is still an arrogant **** about the way he writes each issue, but slowly he's starting to flesh out Selina's motivations about why she does what she does, especially now that a big loss happened in her life in the issues. Still, its not at the level of writing in the other Bat-verse titles.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
So, I picked up my regular subs today, but for some reason was feeling rather adventurous. I'm months behind on my comics, but I just felt the need to buy something else. I asked my comic book guy for recommendations and aside from learning that he hasn't read Scott Pilgrim (how does that happen?) I ended up buying a TPB of Chew and the first two issues of Lobster Johnson. I'm pretty excited, but I really need to catch up on Batman.

What do you guys think of the new Justice League books? I think I've had a fairly tepid response to them. Jim Lee's art was fantastic but the writing feels kind of cheesy and basic. This may be on purpose though, DC are most likely trying to draw in new readers with this book.Comment

JLI is a bit of a mystery to me as most of the team is either hurt or dead at the moment so I don't know where the heck that's going but anything with Booster Gold is going to get my reading attention so we'll see how that goes. I really do like the idea of a Justice League that is more or less run by the UN at the top but even that status quo has gone to seed in this current arc. It kinda feels like the book is going to be terminatedWe'll see what happens.
Justice League Dark.....well i'm not the biggest magic/fantasy type of person so it isn't really calling out to me but i'm hanging in there with this one.
BTW anyone checking out the new Vertigo ongoing (first issue came out last week) called Saucer Country? The premise is very interesting as it looks to be co-mingling the whole politics of illegal aliens with an actual impending space alien invasion. It's a political drama fused with the sci fi of aliens so while parts of the 1st issue was a little cheesy and the main character seems to be drawn heavily from Sarah Palin (at least superficially) she's actually a deeper character. There's a lot there that can fuel the story along. So give it a look if you've got extra money or are looking for something different.
I'm also checking out Hickman's Manhattan Projects but i'm not quite feeling that one just yet. I'll be giving it 3 or so issues before I make a judgment.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

My comic book guy was telling me about Saucer Country yesterday. It sounds interesting, but I didn't bite on it.

Isn't Smallville season 11 coming next month? Will anyone besides myself be picking it up? I watched all 10 seasons of Smallville religiously never missing an episode, even now I don't miss an episode in syndication. So I'm looking forward to seeing what they are going to be doing here.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
I finally caught up on Batman last night. I went through all 7 issues. What an awesome story-arc. Issue #5 was awesome. I loved how they used the orientation of the pages to represent Bruce's state of mind. Some pretty trippy issues, the last couple ones. Its great how much Snyder is just hitting on the right thing, deciding to actually build a compelling, provoking, and "smart" story rather than simply have Batman be an action star - though the few splashes of action have been great. I expect the next couple issues to be balls to the wall, though.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Wow! I had no idea that the crossover was to be this huge! Well played DC, Snyder's Batman has been so outrageously good that I will have no choice but to pick up all of these titles.Comment

Re: Comic Book Fans....
One thing I like with DC going with the "family of books" philosophy is that crossover/major events are limited to the books in those families whereas at Marvel their events sprawl all over the place linewide. Marvel has gotten better though what with the Spidey events usually centered in books that Spidey is involved in or has a historical connection certain characters. The other thing that has Marvel a little better is that their last line wide event did sprawl all over but the core event book was self contained enough that you didn't need to read the extra stuff. Hopefully AVX will be that way as its started off pretty well IMO.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
