Hmmm...Zor-el is portrayed quite differently in "Smallville".

yeah, Smallville has a different view of Zor-El and even Jor-El. Zor-El was recently depicted as a villian in the Supergirl comics but it turned out to be an impostor that was invading Kara's dreams. Zor-El in the past has mostly been more similar to the one in the new novel.

After a long delay i'm finally going to a comic book shop closer to me.

Can anyone reading DC let me know what's going on in the ongoing Superman (ACTION, SUPERMAN) Batman (DETECTIVE, BATMAN) and Booster Gold books?

I really liked Secret Identity. Definitely top 5 in Superman specials. Kurt Busiek is one of my favorite writers and he is a big Superman fan which is always a plus. You'll like it. It takes place in "real life," a world where the only Superman is the one you read about in the comic books until... I think fans of the Heroes TV show would enjoy this book.

Action Comics is about three comics into the Legion of Super-Heroes arc. After the events of 52, it seems like the old golden and silver age Legion is back in continuity (the current version is still around too, weird huh?) and Brainiac 5 has come to the past (our present) to get Superman to help the Legionairres with some crisis in their time. The crisis is that a cult has developed that is trying to rid Earth of aliens, all in Superman's name. It seems that something has happened in the future that has made Earth people believe that Superman really isn't from Krypton, but really from Earth and his Kryptonian heritage was a lie by aliens in order to lead to the dangerous idea that aliens can be good. Geoff Johns is writing it and it is awesome!

In Superman, Busiek just finished up the Third Kryptonian story which I kinda felt let down in, but it was bad, just didn't live up to my expectations. The new story arc started last week but I haven't read the issue yet. The Camelot Falls story finally ended as well in the Superman Annual, haven't gotten around to that either

The Batman books are crossing over between both Bat books, Robin, and Nightwing for the Rise of Ra's Al Ghul story. It's been great so far.

I haven't gotten around to Booster either. The comics that got my most attention lately has been the Green Lantern stuff which just ended the Sinestro Corps War. It was the best story arc I've read in a long time. I absolutely loved it.

Thanks for filling me in overall. Sounds like when it's put in GN form i'm going to have to pick up the Sinestro Corps storyline.

The GN versions of the story will probably be a couple volumes. The story was 14 or 15 issues. The main story was 11 issues mixed between the Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps comics along with the first part taking place in the Sinestro Corps War Special #1. There were also 4 other specials that went with the store line.

The first volume comes out in February it looks like, but it is one of those pricey hardcovers : http://dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=8543

I personally think it is cheaper to just go the ebay route and get the single issues like this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Sinestro-Cor...QQcmdZViewItem
That's what I'd do if I didn't already have the issues.

I don't think you'd need too much knowledge of what's going on before you read the story. The main things you need to know at least something about going into the story is:

Sinestro was a former Lantern that was banished (I think most know this)
Hal Jordan is obviously back as Green Lantern these days but some of the non-Earth native Lanterns have ill feelings towards him because of the destruction he caused as Parallax.
I guess that means you need to know who Parallax is.
I didn't read any of the Green Lantern Corps books before this story-arc, so I really didn't know any of their main characters, but that didn't seem to hinder my understanding. I did know who Guy Gardner and Kilowog are though.
You probably need to know about Kyle Rayner and his role in the Corps as well as him being Ion.
I guess it would also help to know about the main villains that are part of Sinestro's plans (Cyborg Superman, Superboy-Prime, and the Anti-Monitor).

LOL, I guess that might seem like a lot, I could give you a run down of some of those points of interest if you need it. I wouldn't let it stop you from enjoying the story though.

I know, or at least have an inkling of all those things except for Kyle Raynor's role in the corps these days and his role as Ion.

I haven't used my ebay account in a long time and I don't have paypal anymore due to issues with them. I'll just have to find an auction that'll take credit or money order....or I could just buy the DC GNs

Kyle doesn't have much a role leading into the Sinestro Corps War. He was given the Ion powers after Infinite Crisis which pretty much makes him the most powerful GL ever and the Guardians of the Universe refer to him as the "torchbearer," meaning his role in the universe is going to be very important. They don't tell him why though, so even Kyle doesn't really know where he fits in anymore leading into this story. He's trying to find where he belongs both as a GL and with his personal life due to losing both Jade during Infinite Crisis and his mother during the Ion mini-series.

With the lowly "Daredevil" and "Hulk" (OK I know some of you liked it!) putting up these numbers is it a wonder why comic book movies are on the rise? Just a thought.

You guys are going to be sad to know that one of the best in the biz, Michael Turner, died Friday night. You have probably seen his work in Witchblade, Fathom, and others. I remember him have a bad scare dealing with cancer a few years back and that severely limited a lot of his potential production.
