I'm not going to bother reading the entire thread, but which DVD player do most people have? Blu-Ray or HD-DVD?

I am interested in buying one before Transformers is released on DVD. But I am not sure which route to take.

Do yourself a favor and try and find a combo drive. It's not worth choosing one over the other at this point. You'll regret it in the long run.

"Most people" have blu-ray.

Blu-ray is still outselling HD DVD in software (because of volume due to superior studio support) & hardware (thanks to the PS3. Stand-alone sector is nearly deadlocked, however).

Despite all of that, HD DVD is still healthy, and is a decent choice.

Most of the combo players are much more expensive than just buying a cheap HD DVD player (or the 360 add-on) and a PS3 or blu-ray stand-alone, FYI.

How much is the 360 add-on? That sounds like a decent route to take.

$130-179, depends on the site/place/auction. I've seen one sell for $115 without King Kong (but with the remote) on eBay.

If I hook it up to my 360, and then said 360 dies, would I be able to use the attachment on a different 360?

I'm loving my A20 (1080p/24fps is the ****!). The 360 add-on is also a nice choice, but HDMI makes all the difference, IMO. I hate re-buying all my old standard DVD collection, but the pores I see on Johnny Depp's face and the added detail to Rosario Dawson's scene in 'Alexander' make all the difference!

Oh, and Double Eights...'Transformers' will ONLY be available on HD-DVD. Paramount went that route exclusively a few weeks ago.

I'm loving my A20 (1080p/24fps is the ****!). The 360 add-on is also a nice choice, but HDMI makes all the difference, IMO. As for the HDMI, your 360 has to have the proper output, either an Elite or a new Premium. Otherwise the component output will be fine for the add-on HD-DVD output...it just won't look as pristine!

Also, if this hasn't been mentioned, if you purchased the add-on before 9/30 you can get 5 free movies via mail.

You'll enjoy it. The 360 add on loads a little bit faster than the HD A1 stand alone. Don't know if that's the case for the A2, A20, etc.
