Was just sad to see Toshiba throw away the lead they had before the PS3 debuted. Not quite sure why they didn't start doing BOGOs to match Blu Ray ones. If your buyers weren't willing to jump on board until the players were $100, what made them think they'd start paying $25-30 a movie? And when they finally wised up, it was too little too late.

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Ugh, I saw some of the prices of the new Blu-Ray standalones with Profile 1.1
Samsung has a new profile 1.1 player for $400. Are you kidding me? Their combo player will be at $600 bucks.
I'm starting to sense that the only Blu-Ray standalones that we will see below the $200 plateau in the next couple of years will be Profile 1.0 players. Fun timesThis is only going to further slow the adaptation of HDM in most homes.
Yes, we are screwed with Sony's prices since they did say back in November, even before the Warner news that their prices aren't moving any lower on hardware.
From Michael Bay today, this guy must have a big stiffy over all of this. I hope that Transformers sees the light of day on BluRay, because I want to see what he is commenting about.......yes, the sound did suck on HD-DVD for this movie, but Paramount did a **** jog encoding it to the right sound encode.
Originally posted by Michael BayI know the look, color, and sounds on my own movies better they anyone in the world. I color-time every single image, and am there for every single audio tweak. I see my films in the editing and final process no less then a 100 times. I know ever single nuance. For some dick wads on these posts who think I can't make an informed choice on what format in the end, has the truer results for my own films. Well you where to shove.... My films finished in Blu-Ray are better - more true. Hd is better than DVD, but just not as good as Blu-Ray. So buying a Transformers Hd is still the best you will see this movie as of today. But when Paramount caves for Blu-Ray in the future - This will happen, then you will see Transformers one day finished in Blu-Ray and I will sure be able to tell the difference.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
I started doing some research on the Profile 1.0 and lower players, save your money guys because they are completely crap from the complaints that people have had. Newer movies like Die Hard 4 aren't working on those, some low LFE issues, etc.

Bay is a bozo and cracks me up with his comments. You were also the same person that said yesterday that you would replace this title when it comes on BD due to the audio? Unless I was talking to another Extremegamer....LOL!Comment

Co-sign. Transformers was a nice transfer, both sound and audio. But then again, I'm no audiophile and not bothered by lacking lossless sound.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
I'm not a movie buff by any means when it comes to nuances of audio and video. I'm also easily impressed.
That is a terrible combo when it comes to evaluating movie releases. I still think upconverted DVDs look good enough for me! My Blu-Ray films are pretty much all comedies so they don't really push the audio or anything. My HD-DVDs are more action oriented so I can't really compare.

Transformers had excellent PQ, but I felt the AQ was underwhelming when compared to my other discs both BD and HD-DVD.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
I wouldn't be so quick to say BOGO sales will end. Blu-ray is still going against DVD and digital distribution.
Anywho..CES roundup:
CES: Philips Intros $349 Blu-ray Player
Philips has announced its latest Blu-ray player, the BDP7200, which it says will retail for the value price of $349.
The first Profile 1.1 compliant player from Philips, the deck boasts full 1080p/24 and Deep Color support, and the ability to control connected devices using the EasyLink HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) protocols.
Although the company's press release makes no mention of audio codec support, the eagle-eyed folks over at Engadget snapped this pic from behind the demo unit, which would seem to indicate a lack of 7.1 audio support.
Philips says the BDP7200 will hit store shelves this April.

The Dolby Digital + track on transformers was pretty good imo. TrueHD would have been better though...Comment
