True, but think about how many new repeat customers they have possibly just picked up. Yesterday there were tons of people on the forums over there saying they were done with apple, blah blah blah and now it's all happy over there, saying I'll be with apple for life, etc etc. Putting out a fire? Definitely, hell the letter said it was in response to the calls/emails but as I said yesterday, this isn't the first time they've issued a refund like this.

Actually, I'm sure Apple had this in mind before doing the iPhone price drop. They were planning for this (and if there wasn't an outrage they'd just have skipped the rebate). It's just a cost of doing business. If you think about it, they still got all those people to overpay by 100 bucks, and how many will spend way more than 100 bucks at the Apple Store?

So why not have 2? I don't see the problem... you have an MP3 player that has all your music... then you have this really damn cool little handheld.

That's why there are options... I already have all my music on one iPod... this iPod touch is going to be a way I spoil myself.

Yeah, just personally, even when I downloaded a bunch in college, I don't have more than 10 GB of music (and a lot of that is crap). I know a bunch of you have a crapload of music, I'm in the minority. Plus I have to admit that touch screen is cool. Plus web browsing, awesome!

2 mp3 players? Thats a little overboard in my opinion. Plus I'm not even sure you can sync your library to both devices. Most of us music junkies just want something with the itouch features and reasonable HD drive space. I would have liked 60 GB but I would have been OK with 40. But 16GB? And the only reason Jobs gave for the smaller HD is that he wanted to keep the itouch thin? Cmon. I was considering the ipod classic but i still have 20GB left on my ipod and the classic doesnt offer anything other than more space and coverflow (which i heard moves kind of slow)

I don't think it's overboard... but I've always had more than one mp3 player.

I currently have an iPod Photo and a 1st gen Nano. The Nano is my car mp3 player and the Photo is my everything. I take it with me on my daily commute.

You can sync your music collection to a number of devices. I had 4 iPods at one time pulling my music (both of mine, the g/f's and a younger brother).

Trust me... I wanted exactly what you did out of the touch.... but what can ya do? I'm done with waiting for the next big thing... the 16gb iTouch will have to do. It has the features of the iPhone that I love with more space for my music videos and no phone contract. That's pretty much what I was expecting. The 16gb caught me off guard, though.

I don't buy the thin comment... I think it's more an issue with battery life, as HDD's eat up a lot of battery... and the cost of flash media. A 16GB flash NAND card isn't too cheap right now. Look at the price of comparable media...

I wouldn't upgrade to the classic if I were you. It doesn't really offer you anything worthwhile. But if you don't mind spending about $100 for the upgraded UI (with search feature) I'd sell yours on eBay and go for it if I were you.

I don't think you are in the minority. I think people with over 20Gb of music with the need to have all of it at all times is the minority. You can do some cool things with metadata and smart playlists in itunes, to keep a mix of whatever part of your music collection you want on any number of ipods. For instance you can have a smart playlist with all of the music you added to your libary in the last month in it. Then you can have another playlist that has all of the songs you have rated higher than 3 stars. Then you can have another playlist with your 50 most played songs. Then you can sync only these three playlists to an iphone. I am sure most of you guys know this.

The rebate thing from apple is class act in my opinion. That's how you keep lifelong customers. They could have just said, hey its the way technology is. I'm sure some apple customers would have been pissed but not enough to cripple the iPhone or Apple. Instead in two days they took a proactive stances and came out ahead. Apple played this well.

All the $100 store credit does is put more money into Apple's pocket. Hardly anything costs $100 or less, except accessories. The credit is just gonna rope people into buying one of the new Ipods. Since the margin is so high on those things anyway, Apple isn't losing much by giving $100 back.

All Apple Stores started getting the 80gb Classics in stock tonight, the 160gb should be either later tomorrow evening or Saturday.

I'll stop there tomorrow morning to pickup an 80gb Classic.
