    Late last year.

When it was on I think I saw one episode which was when prop Joe was killed.

Also saw the real Avon Barksdale documentary.

Just look at any individual episode of The Wire on Wikipedia and they will give an explanation (at least the author's reasoning) of those quotes (epigraphs) in terms of how they relate to the episode. This is one from "Old Cases" (S1 E4).

Ok im late I know, The Wire

I got put on to this show late so by time I could have an actual convo about it, most of people here originally were gone.

There’s still a few us around like Fresh, JayBee, KG and I’m sure a few others that I forgot to mention.

Been thinking about doing my annual yearly run thru this show again real soon.

Well a few of em are better than none.

Im willing to bet the series is still not known to quite a few people here too.

Was watching Wee bay do an interview and he doesnt think its wise to touch the show again, just leave it be... I mean since Prop Joe died in real life it wouldnt work anyhow, but

Some kind of spin off could work with some of the younger characters who were all turning into the same people they admired.

I was planning on doing a rewatch after basketball season was over and read the book along with the show.

I rewatch every summer. It's been an annual tradition for a decade now.

The thing I've grown to love about the show is it doesn't spoon feed the audience anything. No one ever actually explains what an H file is or a Red Ball. Characters just say things in their normal context and you pick up on it as a viewer. I love shows that don't assume the viewer is an idiot.

Watching the episode in S1 where they had East vs West Baltimore playing in that Basketball game, I wouldn’t have been surprised if Avon were to have that Referee killed later on after feeling like he got screwed over.

That's the first line of thinking with someone like him, which is why he was like " we can have a do-over", but Avon wasnt having it.

There was a contrasting scene, or at least where people say it was between Avon and Marlo

Avon told the ref to stand up for himself when he was scared to say anything for the very reason you pointed out, but Avon was respected, not necessarily out of fear. Avon told him to at least stand up for himself.

When Marlo was confronted by that Security officer, he pretty much got put in an abandoned house with a bullet in his head, because Marlo ruled with fear as a tool.

Sooner or later ya’ll, we’re going to need to have a talk about Stringer Bell. Don’t think we’ve had one in here but we’re going to need one.

One of the reasons why: Trying to teach his Business School mess to a bunch of Street Dudes and basically telling them that their territory didn’t matter.

In the real, legal world, that’s ok to have that mindset. But in that world, you’d be a damn dummy to think like that and think they would go along with it.

Stringer basically died trying to change/redefine the dynamics of the game

He also wasnt seen as good enough to really be "in" with the business people and politicians so he was living a deluded lie.

This thread is what started my interest for the Wire. I'd always see the title and never click it. Started watching it and absolutely loved it. The way they stuck to a certain theme each season, and tied it into previous seasons is what I loved the most.

For me, it was an even earlier thread back in early 2007.

Well, it was a reasonable price back then. HBO DVDs were outrageously expensive.
