    All about regional tastes. I'm sure cats from Down south aren't feeling Sean Price, Mos Def, Joe Buddens etc.

    Just like cats up north here aren't feeling Gucci, Jeezy, Birdman, etc.

            All those guys are horrible. Especially Kid Cudi. Gucci Mane isn't half bad.

              Like someone else said its all based on location who you like, but I must say the current hip hop/rap what ever you wanna call it is no good. You have some really good underground guys from all parts , but the mainstream guys are really destroying something that used to be great. As corny as some of the 80's hip hop sound it made sense. this stuff out here now some of it is just someone speaking words over a half a$$ beat . there is no real imagination or rhyme or reason. Hip hop was about telling a story whether true or false. Even some of good rappers Jay Z , Eminem to name a few have been putting out crap. American Gangster was a great cd , but BP3 stunk to high heaven if it wasn't for Alisha Keys that cd wouldn't get any play. Eminem has put anything out there any good since MMLP he has alot of mixtape stuff that is good , but big time production for the both of them stink.

              just my opinion from an old school listner to hip hop take or leave it.

                ^ I'm still in awe at how bad Jay is on BP3. He just sounds like an old man.

                          I don't think I'll ever understand how southern fans enjoy some of the stuff they do. Though I guess all regions have their fair share of bad music, i don't see people defend the bad the way people in the south defend some flat out bad stuff, maybe i just haven't met these people out west or up north.

                          I spent 4 years in NC at college and it only took a month to stop wasting time talking hip-hop. I like music from all regions, and different styles have their lanes, but sometimes the music is just bad, period.

                          I did exactly that (open mind) and I have to disagree. He can make a catchy song sure, but lyricism isn't his strong suit. To be honest I didn't make it through a full listen, i skimmed the 2nd half of the album and didn't care for it.

                          Gucci Mane is a textbook case of difference in taste as he isn't "bad" but he's far from anything special. I wouldn't hate on him because he put his time in and grinded but technically he is a subpar rapper. As far as southern hiphop goes, his music is like a 5 or 6*. I like some east & west music that technically speaking is probably a 5 or 6*, but hey I like it and i can respect you liking Gucci. That quality of south music though i dabble in less (though I do from time to time). I do agree about his charisma & mic presence compared to the guys mentioned.

                          Co-sign whoever mentioned BP3 being weak outside of Empire State of Mind. With Miss Keys basically replacing Jay's weak verses with her own for part 2, there goes the only redeeming portion of that CD.

                          * My entertainment 10 point scale
                          10 = Greatness that rises above the genre - You need to hear/see/play this
                          9 = Great for genre fans, pretty good in general
                          8 = Very good
                          7 = Good
                          6 = Enjoyable with flaws of varying degree (depending on what you look for)
                          5 = Mediocre
                          4 -1 = Varying degrees of bad*

                          *That is to say that even when accounting for the location bias, a fan should be to at least acknowledge the viability of 9 & 10 music. I find most of the dissent in hip-hop conversation comes from someone salty about a 6 having mainstream success while 7 & 8 artists toil in relative obscurity. Also people have a tendency to call stuff that isn't 10/9/8 garbage *

                          I like the new Clipse album and I think Freedom is one of their best songs yet. Still I see people complaining that it isn't as hard as their last two or that there is less coke rap... like three albums & several mixtapes wasn't enough. They made a few choices that make for a more forgiving listen and i'm not mad at it.

                          Don't know if anyone posted it, but Diggy Simmons did a mixtape, apparently off of his own hustle as opposed to getting the hookup (though being Russell's neph & Run's son is going to open certain doors on its own). The kid is 14 and not bad at all. Of course even Shyheim the nicest kids can end up wack when they get older. Here is a link to listen or download.

                              I don't know where LionsFanNJ's post is..but it has nothing to do with region. It has to do with those southern rappers you posted being terrible terrible mainstream "artists".
