Any popularity ever and you're immediately deemed "pop" or a sellout. So essentially rappers aren't expected to make money.
I mean rapping about gay rights is about as pop as you can get seein how that topic is all over tv and the media and whatnot. Doesn't really have much to do with his race imo.

Are you kidding? He's a genius. Nobody else could've given him this kind of exposure and platform. And he's got his name on the bill, he's not just a producer. It's Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, I doubt he could've had it as good as he has it with anyone else.

I can't speak for anyone else here, but I don't have any issue with Macklmore as an "artist". I don't think he is bad at what he does. The only issues I have with him is that he is classified as straight up hip hop, and as a result recieves an award which the majority of hip hop fans and critics believe should have easily gone to Kendrick.

Macklemore gets put into the rap/hip-hop category the same way Taylor Swift is considered country.

They're both pop artists that are great at making pop music but are classified in genres they don't belong in.

Macklemore is good at what he does...it's just not rap/hip-hop.

I don't like Macklemore as a rapper. I don't have any issues with his subject matter, beats, lyrics, any of it. I just think he's a really bad rapper. His flow is terrible to me, he can't seem to find the beat so he just randomly stops and starts throughout songs. He definitely shouldn't have won over Kendrick, but we all knew he would and so did he and Kendrick. It's not his fault that people know him more than Kendrick (well it is, but it's not his fault in a negative way, it's just because he worked his *** off and put himself there).

At least not most of it. But at the same time, I feel like if you're rapping with laid back style, it's going to be difficult to convince people that you aren't boring. I'd probably guys like Joey BadA$$ and Smoke DZA(using them as examples)in that same category.

Agree with DieHard regarding Macklemore though.
