Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
If anything, I feel bad for Macklemore. To work your butt off for years and finally make it only to always feel you have to defend yourself against "hip hop purist". Many whom he likely respects and looks up to.
To be accepted with his skin tone you either have to be underground or Eminem.
Any popularity ever and you're immediately deemed "pop" or a sellout. So essentially rappers aren't expected to make money.St. Louis Cardinals | Milwaukee Bucks | Los Angeles Rams

Are you kidding? He's a genius. Nobody else could've given him this kind of exposure and platform. And he's got his name on the bill, he's not just a producer. It's Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, I doubt he could've had it as good as he has it with anyone else.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I can't speak for anyone else here, but I don't have any issue with Macklmore as an "artist". I don't think he is bad at what he does. The only issues I have with him is that he is classified as straight up hip hop, and as a result recieves an award which the majority of hip hop fans and critics believe should have easily gone to Kendrick.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Macklemore gets put into the rap/hip-hop category the same way Taylor Swift is considered country.
They're both pop artists that are great at making pop music but are classified in genres they don't belong in.
Macklemore is good at what he does...it's just not rap/hip-hop.Last edited by Beantown; 01-29-2014, 10:36 AM.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I don't like Macklemore as a rapper. I don't have any issues with his subject matter, beats, lyrics, any of it. I just think he's a really bad rapper. His flow is terrible to me, he can't seem to find the beat so he just randomly stops and starts throughout songs. He definitely shouldn't have won over Kendrick, but we all knew he would and so did he and Kendrick. It's not his fault that people know him more than Kendrick (well it is, but it's not his fault in a negative way, it's just because he worked his *** off and put himself there).Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
At least not most of it. But at the same time, I feel like if you're rapping with laid back style, it's going to be difficult to convince people that you aren't boring. I'd probably guys like Joey BadA$$ and Smoke DZA(using them as examples)in that same category.
Agree with DieHard regarding Macklemore though.#RespectTheCultureComment
