lmao at labels buying spots for their artist being "out there". It's common knowledge that money is why a vast majority of these ****ty songs are being played all the time.

Funkmaster Flex did an interview once where he said he and other DJ's would get records to spin in the club with payola. Trying to get the records played more in the club and later when it gets enough steam on the radio. Not saying that every track you hear on the radio is the result of that, but it happens sometimes.

Personally i don't like anything played on the radio at all and haven't listened in over ten years. Perhaps when i get my Zune HD with the HD radio i'll listen in to some of the specific stations.

Yup I stopped listening to hip hop on the radio a few years ago. Thank God for ipods. The thing is, I wouldn't even have an issue with this if the radio stations would stop only playing the same cookie cutter songs everyday. If they played the stupid Flo Rida dance songs, the horrible "singers", and random garbage *** Southern rapper along with some good stuff I would still be listening. With movies you have your "blow **** up" stuff along with the more intelligent movies and even theaters that only play indie movies but with music you either listen to the horrible songs on the radio or you go on the internet looking for something different.

The radio/music industry is a business. The most fundamental rule of business is supply and demand. Now I want deny that labels push certain artists/styles onto the masses. But if there is a demand for something, than the radio is going to supply it.

How do you explain a kid that puts out a song on youtube with no promotion/hype, etc. and it becomes the biggest song in the nation?

People want what they want....couple that with businesses that hates to take chances and you get the radio.

I just think it's unfair to label the majority of mainstream artist garbage.

I would guess that must current music purchases lean towards teenagers. Even if the parents are paying for them. Music is aimed at the lowest common denominator.

As Jmood said thank god for Itunes, I love the amazing talent in the underground scene. I take alot of pride in the fact alot of the acts are so relevent and not popular.

How do you explain someone like Gucci Mane? The guy was NEVER mainstream...in fact the furthest thing from it. He simply made enjoyable music that built a huge following in the south and eventually across the nation. It got to a point where the MTV/BET, mainstream artists, and the radio HAD to take notice. Now he is on songs with Usher and Mariah Carey. The notion that a rapper like Gucci Mane was spoonfed is the farthest thing from the truth.

There is a lot of ignorance about hip hop on this forum so that's why I normally don't argue this. But some opinions are so out there that I just have to chime in.
no diss to Gucci Mane man. He made it with hard work and effort. He earned the right to be famous. His reputation got him NOTICED by the big boys. Now... he's making idiotic songs with... like you said... Usher and Mariah Carey... it really makes no musical sense for a guy like Gucci (and his subject matter) to be on a track with these 2 individuals... it's like these guys work their butt off to get a free pass to be an asshat on the radio... So basically you are saying people want to hear talented individuals spit like morons? I don't buy THAT for a second.

Chamillionaire's Major Pain mixtape is heat. Definitely worth a pick up. "Shadows" by Styles P has one of the hardest beats I have ever heard and he goes in. Lupe murders it as usual in the song, "Resurrection", a tribute to Haiti of sorts.
