Thundercat's vocals have always been hit and miss with me. When I'm in that goofy/fun mood they work, but if I'm not then they can be a little annoying. With that said the only reason I'm really listening to him is for his instrumentation and if Michael McDonald is on a track.

New Durk tape is good. One of the few I actually enjoy listening to these days.

If you don't mind me asking, what about Durk puts him on that shortlist and who else is on it? I'm just always curious what draws people to certain artists.

Still listening to Cooks, seeing him and Roc are affiliated with Busta Rhymes from back in the day. Growing up I remember hearing about Flip Mode and all that but never knew who was actually in it other than him so its kinda funny that all these years later it's hitting with me. Also, that, plus the Badu vs Jill Scott, made me realize I've never heard a full Busta Rhymes album or a full Jill Scott album. Too much music.

Pretty decent week of releases. JoJo and Little Simz each put out their own little EP's, both are pretty good. I really like "one life, might live" off of the Simz tape. Not super into the Lil Tjay tape but Zoo York is dope, I just love the distorted bass they use on drill songs. I really like Kehlani's album too, Serial Lover, Hate the Club (with VA's own Masego on the sax), Grieving, Change Your Life, her voice is just great.

        Things that surprised me:

This guy has 2 songs out from what I can see, seems to be someone already in the industry by the looks of his first 2 features, but this is dope. I can go without the Rascal Flatts cover or whatever.

Had never heard of this guy, apparently he's on the same label as the Suicide Boys. Pretty good album, imagine a Mexican kid grew up idolizing the 90's West Coast music the way Joey did for East Coast stuff. Also the whole thing is produced by a dude from VA which was interesting.

Oh you've got a good time ahead.

Pretty much everything they put out is good, but WWCD is a good group introduction. For Benny, Tana Talk 3 and the Plugs I Met, also Stabbed & Shot with 38 Spesh. For Conway, I'd say Reject 2 and More Steroids. For Westside, Flygod, Pray for Paris, Supreme Blientele, all of the Hitler Wears Hermes (there's 7 but 2 and 4 are my personal favorites). Then they just signed Boldy James from Detroit who put out The Price of Tea in China, also with Alchemist earlier this year if you haven't heard that one yet.

Finally sat down and listened to The Fix after seeing Bo say it’s a better album than The Blueprint. Only thing I can say to that is insanity. He says the highs on the Blueprint are higher than the highs on The Fix which I definitely agree with (Never Change and Song Cry get this whole album out of there) but that it’s more cohesive because of not having a Jigga that *****. That song does suck, but the hook on In Between Us is so bad it made me want to not listen to a song with Nas and Scarface on it so it evens out in my mind. Unrelated but I don’t know if I’d ever actually heard On My Block before. It was just the beat to the Cam Rap City freestyle in my mind, never went to see where it came from. Great album, but no Blueprint.

Anyway, my favorite song by far on The Fix was Heaven. I went and looked it up to see who produced it and of course. Power came on in my shuffle the other day and the “screams from the haters, got a nice ring to it, I guess every superhero need his theme music” came back to me and I’m like oh my god what happened to this guy?!

Any thoughts on this new Cole song? Seems like he’s talking about Noname, or at least that’s the read of it because the Noname defense club is out in full force slandering this man [emoji23]. I get his purpose, but people are not trying to hear “talk to them nice” right now.
