This is easily one of my favorite TV series ever, and this final season may be my favorite season of a TV show ever, and Walter just might be my favorite TV character ever.

Full series on Bluray in May.

I already miss the show. What a great finale. Fringe handled it so well.

When Fringe debuted 4 plus years ago many people, including myself, were expecting at most, an X-Files lite. If it could be half as good as that show then it would be a nice little weekly diversion.

I never thought that it would be on my Mt. Rushmore of All-Time favorite shows. Well done Fringe, you will be missed.

Peter… I sent you a letter. It contains something of mine. I imagine you’d to call me to ask: “why would you send such a strange letter?” And when you called, I didn’t answer. So you went to find me at the lab, but I was not to be found. I was here one moment, then vanished from the face of the Earth the next. I want you to know… I’m fine. I’m living many, many years from now. You’ll never see me again. You never see me again because it had to be this way to ensure the future of our humanity. Your future. The future of Olivia. The future of Etta. I don’t want you to be sad. The time we had together we stole. I cheated fate to be with you. And we shouldn’t have had that time together, but we did. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I don’t wanna say goodbye. But I will say… I love you, son.

Is the assumption that Peter suddenly remembers what happened when he sees the tulip?

That's how I took it, but I haven't seen any mention of the ending anywhere.

Its confusing to think about it. Walter shouldn't have known anything to send the letter. The current Walter was past the invasion point and he went into the future. Now that Walter wouldn't know anything because it hadn't happened yet. The only thing I can think of is that September comes back and tells Walter what has happened, he still has to save Peter, etc.

Peter shouldn't know anything, he should only know what has happened up to that point. Different universe and fringe events, but nothing the observer invasion and stopping them.

But Olivia remembered the original time line so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that a symbol would trigger a memory, assuming that's what happened.

In true Fringe fashion, they give us something to discus after the fact.

Unless I'm thinking of the wrong one (did they have more than 1 reset?), Olivia only remembered because of Peter. He triggered the memories from the alt universe. That timeline/alt still happened though so it is different.

Peter would never remember anything because nothing had happened yet. That Peter was in 2012 or something similar. Nothing from the future would happen now. Maybe him or Olivia might be able to sense something was changing in the timeline, but I don't think they could. Walter was deleted so that time could go on and no one would have any knowledge of what would happen have they failed, those people would be removed.

I agree, but that's why I'm wondering if maybe that final shot was to show us that Peter can remember (somehow) and he did. It felt that way. His look was one of sudden realization.

It's confusing in many ways because as you mentioned above, how does Walter even know to tell Peter he is sending that letter if that timeline never existed, or wouldn't exist with the actions they took.

That story plus Peter's look makes me believe that Peter and Walter shared a memory of the things to come and the things that once happened despite logically not being able to.

What that means? No idea. It's Fringe.
