The more I talk this out with you guys, the more I wish they would have ran with the Dent/Batman dynamic for this final one had they not abruptly killed him off.

I remember reading a long time ago, the original treatment from Goyer for the two sequels was Joker scarring Dent at the end of 2, and Two-Face being the villain for the third. That was very early on in the process of Dark Knight however.

Yeah I can see you having those thoughts. I'm not overly attached to her, so I just appreciated they got her in. Also, I think going back and watching it a second time knowing the twist will make Marion's performance stand out.

Actually I want to make this point, and it's the one reason that I'm incredibly happy with these films:

Despite story line faults or whatnot, Christopher Nolan's casting and writing of parts were fantastic. He obviously has a love of Batman, or he hired a lot of writers and casting crew that loved batman.

Bruce Wayne was cast pretty damn well. You'd be hard pressed to find a guy to play a better tormented billionaire than Christian Bale. He plays both the playboy and the serious type very well.

Alfred is cast really well with Michael Caine. Despite the fact that he is the constant voice of reason/perspective and always has a 10 minute long speech prepared, he still plays his role perfectly. His performances were always top notch, even if the writing of his role, particularly in this last film, absolutely ****ing sucked.

The best casting decision was Gary Oldman for Commissioner Gordon. Honest to God, from his look, to his speech, to his movements, I don't think they could have done a better job. He was born for that role, an absolutely brilliant decision and one of my favorite on screen characters.

But outside of the joker, the best in the entire trilogy was JGL, and his Officer Blake. It's kind of funny, because they drop that whole "Gotham's White Knight" story line in this movie, but Blake is exactly the hero that Bruce and Gordon were looking for. And in the end, he becomes Batman. I'm foaming at the mouth to see JGL get a chance in the Batsuit. Sure, he may look a little off, and he'd definitely have to get on a workout program, but his acting and his previous roles in an action film have him ready for that, I think. If there is a God, please give us JGL as the next Batman. Please.

The most important thing is that I don't see actors. I see characters. I know that sounds stupid and needlessly deep, but how many times do you get sucked in by actors. Yet, in all three of these movies, I don't think about how Christian Bale is a great actor, I'm seeing these characters as real people. And that's important. And it's something that I think Nolan successfully did through all three movies. Which is why I love this trilogy so much. I may not be happy with all the writing, but the characters and their actions are all so believable and entertaining.

If Dent was the sole villain, I feel this movie would've fallen flat on it's face. He was so horrible to me in The Dark Knight. One of the reasons I didn't like that film as much. Maybe it was due to him paling in comparison to the outstanding Joker.

Now if you mean Dent plus Bane and/or someone else that would've been cool.

I like the current arc better and to me it makes more sense. Also in a way it started reminding of No Man's Land.

Two Face is one of my favorite villains but having him trying to destroy Gotham like that is too much for his character. But...

It's well done, but he kind of did the same act about three times in thirty minutes at the end of TDK. Talking about what's fair and what's not, and leaving things up to a coin toss.

Dent's overall story line was great, though. Perhaps the problem was that his transformation was so quick.

This. I was meaning to imply that if the him and the Batman conflict was the driving force of this story, the details would have developed in more detail and his transformation would have been much more intricate.

I know. IMO, it wouldn't settle well for a full movie's length. He's just a man with a gun in the end.

Had work, road trip, plus a night out before I even got to the theatre so maybe I was a bit fuzzy but something relatively simple that didn't quite stick with me near the end.

Talia is the mastermind, got it. She is inflicting pain on Batman by stabbing him. He is clearly wounded...until she leaves and then he is fine again. I realize that Batman spends most of the movie being mangled but maybe it would have helped had Talia done something to take her seriously as a threat to Batman.

She basically was just there for the whole movie, turned on Batman and then acted like crazy Molly from Inception until the end. She was my biggest and really only complaint about the whole movie.

Enjoyed it. TDK is still my favorite of the 3. I'm torn on the "happily ever after" ending.

While I really enjoyed it, I fall somewhere in the middle. I feel most are being really over critical, but I understand why. TDK was as close to perfection as comic book movies are going to get, so the same was expected here. My biggest issue was with the moments of time lapse already mentioned.

I thought Tom Hardy, who is one of my favorite actors, was fabulous as Bane. However, as menacing as he was, I also would have preferred his voice had been closer to the earlier version of it. Regardless, as hard as it was to match up to Heath, I thought he did an admirable job.

I thought the interactions with Bruce and Alfred were great. Both Bale and Caine really turned in great performances. JGL was fantastic as Blake as well. Really excited about him possibly taking over as Batman in future movies.

Overall, I really liked the movie. However, like most everyone else, TDK is always going to be the movie to compare to when it comes to Batman.

I'd rate the series TDK>TDKR>BB.
