Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
He would have to be, that was 20 years ago. What about the never aging doctor? Does he continually just travel through time?Interesting thought about Daniel. Never even crossed my mind that he was in the mine as a time traveler.
Not sure where to go with that. Daniel obviously should be older if he was indeed there. Unless, he's just like Alpert. Or, it's more along the lines of what you mentioned. He's reliving the entire experience to better understand it.

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
I know I'm late to the party but did anyone else notice the hypocricy of Hurley's anger towards Siad?
Hurley wants to tell the truth but the group does not. So Hurely directs his anger towards Siad saying "wait till you need my help some day".
First, why does he single out Siad? There were 3 other adults on that boat he didn't attack.
Secondly, the whole point of lying was to protect the survivors still left on the boat.
If Hurley is supposed to be 'the heart of the island' why would he get angry about protecting the people still left behind? He did that for the first 4 freakin' seasons and all of a sudden he's willing to risk the well being of all his friends just to tell the truth?
Meanwhile, didn't he hide his truths from everyone on the island for the most part?
He rants to his mom that people like Widemore are trying to kill them so he knows how dangerous it is to let anyone know that more people survived on the island.
I don't know why this bothered me so much but it was bad writing.
The rest of the show was great. But I'll be honest. If this entire season is nothing but the Oceanic 6 trying to get back on the island while the survivors left behind continue to sift through time, I'm going to stop watching.
It's time to move this show forward and fast.
I want to know about the numbers, the smoke monster, the foot-statue, how the 'Hostiles' got there, why eye-liner dude doesn't age, why kids can't be born on the island, how Locke can walk, why are dead people walking around, how is it possible that all their lives are intermingled, how can they go back in time, why does cancer not exist, etc, etc, etc.
I am honestly fearful that all of the above will never be answered. And if that's the case, I will spit venom everytime I hear the word "Lost".Comment

You mean Alpert, right? Not sure what's the deal with him. Something to do with the Island is all I can guess. The one hour recap mentioned that he doesn't age, so you know there's a reason behind it."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
Well, you won't be pleased.....They said in the recap show that the 4 toed foot statued was to signify that people had been coming there a long time. As in the island has been used by ancient civilizations. I don't see getting an answer to the smoke monster. Those clowns will just make it disappear like everything else. I would imagine that the smoke monster is a "keeper of the continuom" If you get in 2 places at the same time you get the nose bleeds, if something else rifts the time continuom in relation to you, the smoke monster processes the time and deals with the inconsistancy.I know I'm late to the party but did anyone else notice the hypocricy of Hurley's anger towards Siad?

I would, actually, be perfectly fine with that. It'd be better than it being someone on the island's "pet" under their command.I would imagine that the smoke monster is a "keeper of the continuom" If you get in 2 places at the same time you get the nose bleeds, if something else rifts the time continuom in relation to you, the smoke monster processes the time and deals with the inconsistancy.Comment

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
I also think that the group that "captured" Sawyer and Juliet briefly will be lead by Alpert, which is why Alpert will make Locke give him the compass. Which brings up the question -- are they in a time where Alpert already met Locke as a child, or is this before then?
I'm going to guess it was after he met him, because they would make sense as to why Alpert gave that test to Locke when he was little to see if he would pick the compass or not. It was probably to see if he remembered that happening before it "happen" to him.Michigan WolverinesChicago White SoxComment

You made me think. Before I was thinking that only on the island could you time travel, but Alpert seems to be either non-aging or able to travel throughout time, leave the island, effect things off the island and return.I also think that the group that "captured" Sawyer and Juliet briefly will be lead by Alpert, which is why Alpert will make Locke give him the compass. Does anyone remember from the past episodes, when they showed who was on that smaller plane, they had some flash backs about the drugs and whatever else they were doing?I also think that the group that "captured" Sawyer and Juliet briefly will be lead by Alpert, which is why Alpert will make Locke give him the compass. If we can remember about when that was we can answer your question.Comment

That was Ekos brother's plane. Reamy I think he was.
They never really said when that crashed, but that also isn't very relevant because they jumped in time twice after the plane crashed.Michigan WolverinesChicago White SoxComment

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
I can definitely see whats coming up, The explanation of how the ship showed up on the island with roussoue. that should be in the next episode or 2. I also want to know that if the losties are simply moving through time, how the hell did the island disappear? it doesnt seem like the island is "moving" just the people. To really get a "hold" on this show you have to watch, rewatch, and take some notes. Im rewatching season 1 and its crazy how much foreshadowing goes on in this show that you dont see. Im sure that we have enough info in episodes 1 & 2 of season 5 to know whats going to happen in episodes 3-6 but we just dont know it.Comment

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
My opinion of the "Smoke Monster" is something along the lines of the protector of the island. It kills the pilot in season one. Pilot had an idea of where he was in relation to the ouside world. Getting rid of him kept the outside world away from discovering the island. Kills the mercenaries because IMO ben tells "jacob" something along lines of "if we don't get rid of them then Widmore will find and exploit this island". thats why ben ran into secret room and seemed to know what was going to happen. Kills Echo because Locke is important to island and was tracking down Echo to "clean up his own mess". Needed Locke to get past that and help move island before it got to be too late.
I followed the whole Time traveling thing and didn't get how it lost others. Like it was said before it clearly states 3 years ago, Present day, to let you know whats going on at certain points in time.
Group that captured Sawyer and the bunch Could also be the others from before Dharma iniative was on island. During recap show it even talked about how Dharma called them the "hostiles".
Its obvious Faraday knows about Charlotte and her nosebleeds just isnt saying much right now until he knows how to help with that.
Hurley IMO just has a guilt trip about constantly lying to everyone. He seems to know they have to go back to island but don't know who to trust of how to go about it so just has a moment. Hears different things from different people and confuses him. We also don't know who Besides Charlie has visited him and talked to him. Echo played chess but did he say anything to him? Sayid said not to trust ben no matter what and thats why he gave himself up.
Don't believe Locke is truly dead, but don'tknow where they going with that.Comment
