Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Saw "Shrink" starring Kevin Spacey.
It's a very good dramatic film. It very funny but in a dark way. It's also sad in some parts. It's actually very smart too. I think anyone that likes good film-making and doesn't need immediate gratification (nothing wrong with that) will enjoy it.
He's a psychiatrist in LA with a best-selling novel and he's hugely depressed/gone. He meets some great characters along the way - I think it's really worth watching, I really enjoyed it and found it thought-provoking.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

District 9
Brothers
Training Day
I'll just keep it brief and say that I loved all of them. Brothers was the weakest of the three, but was a welcoming surprise altogether. District 9 was a pretty damn good movie and the effects were much better than I thought they would be. I just can't believe I hadn't seen Training Day until now either.
EDIT: Oh wait, I also recently saw The Taking of Pelham 123. This was a movie that was greatly affected in the wrong way by the choice of director. I've seen him direct three movies with Denzel Washington (Pelham, Man on Fire, and Deja Vu), and every time I get taken out of the movie because of his artistic inclusion. He is going lower and lower in my book alongside Brett Ratner, however he at least has the integrity to take unique stories. Good, short, and action-packed. I heart John Travolta.
wasn't it tony scott? I think the movie would have been good with most directors out there...the problem was overdoing the camera movements! every dialogue scene was crazy steady-cam, dolly, pan ... just obnoxious. Especially in the scenes where they are trying to dig deep in to characters and the camera is buzzing around like a hornet.
Remember the scenes in die hard between the cop and willis? imagine that with a camera spinning around ruining it. lol.
I feel like this film was story-boarded with them assuming this is a new age and we need to do these stupid mtv techniques to be relevant. It really would have been better with different directing, but because of it - it's a forgettable film.
just by contrast I wanted to point out that I found the opposite with Law Abiding Citizen...it very easily could have been crap, but was saved by the direction. It had a worse script than Pellham, but ended up being a far superior movie.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Finally saw Avatar, but not in 3D. It was good and kept me engaged the entire time. Didn't find it to be ground breaking. Solid 8/10Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
You wouldn't find anything "groundbreaking" about it if you didn't see it in 3D. It's a damn good movie without the 3D (in my opinion), but yeah...the groundbreaking effects/visuals come from seeing it in the IMAX 3D.Comment

See, I didn't share the same awesomeness. There was a terrible hissing noise every time that someone spoke, I had to turn it off. I didn't even finish watching my Blu-ray copy it was so awful. I want to sell it, as much as I like the movie itself.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Little Big League.
love to quote this movie.
Here's an easy one. Who was the first black player to play in the major leagues?
You want me to say Jackie Robinson, but I won't. Fleet Walker for Toledo. I believe the year was 1884.And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Watched the blu ray Sin City on my friends PS3 last week or two weeks ago and had absolutely no problems with a "hissing noise," and it seems like the other poster didn't either.Comment

Solid, solid movie. So happy I got to catch that one in the theaters on the recommendation of a random friend. Haven't seen it in a couple years though, but you have me interested again...especially with Jessica Alba.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
You know what, I just checked my Blu-ray again and it seems that I have the Canadian import (got it off http://www.inetvideo.com). Perhaps that's why. But there's definitely no audio system issues here, that's a guarantee. In fact, normally a hissing noise like that is a result of picking up every sound of the Blu-ray's audio encode. Case-in-point, people that watch my Blu-ray without a lossless setup may not hear the hissing noise.
Canadian releases are a hit and miss sometimes. The Blade Trilogy is another to avoid.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Sherlock Holmes: Full disclosure, I would pay to watch Robert Downey Jr. read a phone book. That's how much I enjoy his movies. And this was no exception. I loved it. Downey and Jude Law's banter throughout the movie was fun to watch. They worked really well together. Blackwood or whatever the frack his name was is truly badass. And I'll never object to Rachel McAdams in anything. Not only her looks (WOW), but I thought she was really good in her part. Overall, this jumps to the top of my "Movies to buy" list. It's a metaphorical list. It'd be weird if I had an actual piece of paper to keep track of movies I want.
Bad Lieutenant: Well, that was weird. Felt like I was watching an episode of House. You know, if House was a corrupt as hell cop. I'm still not sure how I feel. Nic Cage was really good in his role. Everything around him, though, felt crappy and not well done, as I've come to expect every time the First Look Studios logo pops up before the movie. Worth watching, as it's a pretty decent story and Cage is pretty awesome, but I wouldn't be mad if I never saw it again.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn
