Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

Just watched District 9 on Netflix.

I really liked it. I'd say it's in my top 5, maybe even top 3 movies of '09.

Well that's disappointing. I could see how that would happen what with shoehorning some fancy arse steampunk/sci fi stuff in there.

Is it really that bad? I was looking forward to seeing this.

It just seemed...lazy. I don't know. I wouldn't outright say it was horrible and I could see how it would work in a comic book (I want to pick up at least the first one), but I wouldn't be upset if I never saw the movie again.

Just saw Shutter Island, Nightmare on Elm St. , Avatar, Kick ***. All very good movies but Avatar and Shutter Island are must sees and Kick *** is very good also. Ive seen Felon, Seven Pounds, Deadly Impact, Sex Drive all on netflix recently which I thought are all good movies. Ive also watched Gunnin for that #1 Spot, a basketball documentary about the top high school players in 2008.

Smokin Aces. Very slick movie on second viewing---not just a Shoot Em Up or Crank mindless action movie. Has some elements of The Departed. 7/10

                  Alicia Keys looks greatttttttttttt

This posts reminds me i've got to see this movie again. I saw it at the cinema and enjoyed it for what it was. Have you seen the sequel and know if it's any good?

I guess a lot of people are seeing Shutter Island these days. And for good reason, I saw it last week and it is a very good film. I also watched The Breakfast Club yesterday. Classic movie that had a lot of really funny parts.

I think it's called Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus or something close.

I remember seeing ads last year and thought it might be one of those "so bad it's good" type movies, but it wasn't even close. It was just bad - there was no enjoyment to be had anywhere.

I watched one of those...Komodo Vs Cobra, I think...and holy **** was it bad.

The main character literally fired 150+ bullets from two handguns in the span of two minutes, continuous, with no reloading. It was hysterically awful.

I may need to look into this Mega Shark Vs Octopus.

                                Adventureland

I'm still a bit confused about which emotions the director wanted to captivate me with during the movie. Was I supposed to look for cheesy one-liners per scene to fulfill myself? Was I supposed to feel invigorated by the main character's actions during the climax of the movie? Was I supposed to be surprised with the unveiling past relationships between characters? Was I supposed to feel a connection between Eisenberg and Stewart 15 minutes into the movie when they spontaneously woo each other? Was this movie supposed to get that "kids target" for an R-rated movie, despite the pretty adult-themed sex, drugs, alcohol, and 80s innuendos?

I think that Adventureland was a little more serious in tone than I expected, and that some side characters were too kooky to fit in with that tone. I also felt like every scene in the theme park itself felt "fake" in a way, like you wouldn't expect things like that to happen in a real life scenario, be it character dialogue or just the overall unfolding of a scene. I bet writing and reading this script may have left people scratching their heads asking, "Why?"

Half of me liked this movie, the other half of me didn't. I don't think it warranted the 3 out of 4 stars that it was rated on Comcast, and I generally tend to agree with their consensus. It definitely wasn't a big laugh out loud movie, I'll say that much.
