Between Pitt, Norton and the fact that it was a famous novel it shouldn't really be that surprising.

I guess I forgot about the novel. All I'm saying is I normally don't expect movies like this to be generally adored by everybody. Like I love it, but I would also see why no one else would like it at the same time. It just might not be their style, so I'm surprised that it is.

It's actually ironic...right after I posted that, this quote popped up on my Facebook news feed:

"To have read the book after the movie is one of the great crimes in white culture, and under no circumstances should you ever admit doing this. Literally dozens of white friendships have imploded when it was revealed that someone read Fight Club after 1999."

I watched a couple of movies over the past few days:

Up - I don't watch a lot of these type of movies but, I thought this one was pretty good.

Centurion - Very solid movie. It easily exceeded my expectations.

Drag Me to Hell - Decent in a funny/scary kind of way. If that makes sense.

Fight Club is basically the quintessential college male movie. In 10-20 years it will probably be on top 10 of all time lists.

The Town. A good Affleck movie without Matt Damon. Who knew? Fun ride with a satisfying ending. The ending had shades of Shawshank Redemption...

Decent movie with a good plot. Makes you wonder if companies actually do this sort of thing. Some parts were predictable, others weren't. Amber Heard was smoking hot.

                      Crazy Heart

Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal were golden. Colin Farrell was terrific with his limited screentime. The country music was also very good. Unfortunately, it was a movie that tended to be less about a plot drive and more about character development for character development's sake. It led to quite an uninteresting second half tumble. It was a movie with fine elements, but was just kind of a boring movie.

True Grit - All around awesome movie. Great acting my Bridges and the young girl. Damon was solid as well. Probably the best Western since Tombstone, IMO.

                          Marry Me

This was a movie made for TV on Lifetime starring Lucy Liu. Now don't laugh and start point fingers; I wouldn't have watched it if my whole family didn't involve themselves in it, but it was also pretty long (two 90 minute episodes, so three hours in total). The movie was fine, it wasn't any typical rom-com kind of flick but it also had the unfortunate "fake" effect of the scripted dialogue. Like most talky movies I have seen Liu in, it contained absolutely nothing but back-and-forth comebacks filled with wit and charm. Most of the conversations were so attentive on character personality traits that they decided to only get that far with their characters. For a three hour movie, there was very little plot drive to be got.

Now on the plus side, it wasn't very clichéd at all and was in some ways kind of unexpected with every scene. I really did like that about it, that every minute I still did not know how it was going to end. There were just enough characters to bounce around in this alloted time period for me to still remember all of them and their purpose in the story, so this fleshing out was important in conversation but I just wish they had more "real life" conversations and not so much like they're talking about movie stereotypes and how people's personalities fit things, etc.

For a Lifetime movie, I actually kind of dug it. I don't think I'll be venturing in that territory very often at all, but it's good to sometimes give things a chance especially when everyone else is watching. At least I didn't walk away thinking it was a complete waste of my time.

                            Vertical Limit

Very good blu ray transfer. Easy storyline to follow. Plenty of action. Kinda surprised I enjoyed this. Solid B rating.

                            Star Trek Original Motion Picture

Loved it. Considering it's age, this is a great blu ray transfer. Vivid colors and great sound. Can't go wrong with Nimoy and Shatner.

I thought ST:TMP was boring. The book made it a lot more interesting.

My movie When the Levees Broke

It's a documentary about Katrina in New Orleans, I had to watch it for a college class. It's very provocative/evocative, and the footage you see is incredible. (No political discussion here, but I think everyone would like it, it'll make you think)
