Re: What movies have you seen recently?

      Watched Sucker Punch on blu-ray.

First, I'm not sure what the deal is but the picture quality was disappointing a lot of the time. Some of the movie seemed pixelated and out of focus. It wasn't horrible, but it was enough to make me wonder why the image wasn't beautiful all the time. I also noticed that the film was letterboxed on my screen. Can't recall seeing this on another blu-ray film?

Secondly, the movie isn't great, but I think the overall disappointment with it was unwarranted. Wasn't the worst movie this year, in my opinion. I didn't really like the beginning, the reason for Babydoll being in a mental institution - it felt like a forced idea to just get an explanation in and get to the action. The rest of the story was better than decent to me. Made sense to me.

I will say that Zack Snyder most definitely knows how to shoot an action scene.

I thought Sucker Punch wasn't as bad as it was said to be, but on the other end it wasn't all that great either.

Adding to that, I read a lot of reviews from both critics and people like us that pretend to be critics and so many talked about how offensive this film was to women.

I seriously expected these women to be near naked.

Has anyone ever seen what women wear in a brothel? Outside of Babydoll's school girl skirt, I'm pretty sure I saw most of the things women wear in the summer in NYC.

I just think most of the complaints were about things that had very little to do with content and imagery and more to do with wardrobe and gender rights. I couldn't care less about the wardrobe or the specific genders of the protagonists and antagonists. Why do these things bother people in an action film?

I think people came in with a certain notion before even viewing the movie itself. Then once it started and realized WHERE they were imagining it to be is what got everyone up in arms in that regard in the first place. Prostitution is a taboo subject in society in general, so I'm not surprised that there was an uproar about it.

Watched The Mothman Prophecies starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney as I hadn't seen it in awhile and enjoyed it. It's a really good mysterious film and well acted. I also thought the atmosphere was well done which had a eerie feeling to it.

Watched the Lincoln Lawyer last night and ready enjoyed it. I'm not a huge matthew mcconaughey fan generally but he was pretty good in this one and the story kept me locked in. A solid 7.5 from me....

I remember watching this and liking it. Did a lot of reading on the events it was based on.

                    Return of the Fly

Eh, it was definitely a few notches below the original but I watched at least half of this one. The lead actor was pretty bland but at least Vincent Price was around to give it some legitimacy. A bit of a dud....

Finally watched A Clockwork Orange, Kubrick's classic controversial film.

Well, I'm not surprised. It was released in 1971 but I don't think there's a time period it could be released without controversy.

                          Liked it a lot.

When you read it, read the first two or three chapters (or whenever you feel comfortable with the slang) and then start over. Definitely a great book. I did my senior lit. analysis paper on it.
