Crazy Stupid Love.

Watched this with the wife on her iPad2 on the flight back home from Fla. It was good entertainment, although as with most romantic comedy-type movies, it drives me a little nuts how they do a decent job of building the characters and storylines the first 45 minutes and then when it gets to crunch time, certain characters disappear and there's huge gaps in the story because the writers are in a rush to get to the ending.

As for the ending, I liked that it was left open to interpretation a little bit.

The Muppets

Fantastic movie. There were a lot of moments where you will begin to cry just from nostalgia. It was like seeing a really good friend for the first time in a long long time.

Nice, I heard Frank Oz had not so pleasant things to say about the movie but i'm glad it was good


I watched an old obscure movie with the famous Edgar Bergen and his puppet Charlie McCarthy called Charlie McCarthy, Detective It was no great shakes but I needed to watch something light. The only thing that bugged me was the one racist black character portrayal but I guess one can forgive it based on the times.

There were some cute lines especially when Charlie and Edgar do their comedy bit in the beginning of the movie. Here's an example:

(Charlie is acting as a detective)

Charlie: Well i'm just a lookout man

He sees an attractive waitress handing out food and such and starts ogling her and going ga ga for her

Edgar: and what are you on the look out for?

Charlie: (giving a funny look to Edgar) I look out for myself!


Okay, not so funny on paper but it was pretty cute and got a chuckle out of me while watching. The humor is much like that. Unfortunately the mystery that serves as the plot in the film brings it down quite a bit. The flick only gets interesting when Edgar, Charlie and Mortimer Snerd pop in.

McCarthy in films just didn't seem to resonate.

Just finished Source Code. Has a slight "been done" feel, but unique enough and very intriguing/entertaining. Not the biggest Jake Gynghelfihelgilghl (sp?) fan, but he was good.

Citizen Kane - It's amazing to me how Welles' best roles are in movies where his screen time isn't that major. Citizen Kane Orson doesn't appear in a scene until nearly 30 minutes in, but that is the whole point of the movie to figure out who this guy really was. It's a classic "after the fact" noir and the more you know about him, the less you know. In the end, "Rosebud" doesn't matter because it doesn't explain away his life. Its symbolic yes and what he was looking for in others around him to fulfill (dude was crazy manipulative in a psychotic super villain kind of way), but that wouldn't answer all the questions and bring the viewer any closer to knowing Charles Foster Kane.

Also, being an "older film," I have to say it is probably one of the most interesting films as far as framing and setting shots go. Warner Brothers did an amazing job restoring this for blu-ray.

I agree with you which is why the movie kinda fell flat. Bergen's comedy was more suited to the radio. The best bit Bergen ever did with McCarthy is pretty infamous in some ways:

Some of the flirtation between West and McCarthy was so steamy/offensive to the people at home that the FCC found it indecent and NBC banned West from their stations. She didn't appear on radio again until 1950.

In essence this was probably the Janet Jackson incident of the radio age.

Too true about this movie. In a lot of ways Welles was ahead of his time. This movie has so many film techniques that are standard practice today but it was revolutionary back then.

Inside Job. Very-well made documentary and, in my opinion, just continues to reaffirm my thoughts on the financial industry and why it deserves a big reset button.

This is pretty much a kids movie but with language and minor drug use so I'm not sure what they were aiming for. Wasn't what I expected but it was still decent. I don't really understand how the ending worked.

I get that when it grabbed the kid it got the idea to make a model but there was only one cube. I thought all the cubes were needed. It just made the ship out of one cube and a bunch of junk and the junk transformed into the ship? Why? I know the cubes can shift,did it magically transfer the shape shifting properties to all the random stuff it magnitized?

Amanda Michalka...oh my. I didn't know who she was,was apparently in The Lovely Bones but I don't remember her. Then I wondered if she was Aly Michalka's sister and she is. They were Aly & AJ. I thought those 2 disappeared from the face of the planet or were assimilated into Disney somehow.

Case 39: A decent horror film starring Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper. The little girl was freaky. The storyline was predictable but I enjoyed it.

That was Aly. I knew of her from Bandslam,I just didn't know that was the same Aly from Aly & AJ.
