Not really a fan. And her casting in this particular role was not very credible.

Hey at least she'll never reach the epic miscasting that was Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist in 007 The World is Not Enough (1999)

Anywho, today I start my series of reviews of the X-Men movies every monday.

        X-Men (2000)

Excellent movie! I had forgotten just how dark and moody it was compared to other comic book films at the time it was released and even today. The Wolverine/Rogue story combined with integrating themselves with Professor X and the X-Men was handled well. Unfortunately, the other thing I forgot was just how much filler Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey were as well as the Brotherhood of Mutants. The mood of the movie and the story arc of the 4 main characters made the movie work though.

Forgot to add "The Incredible Hulk". For the 2nd time, maybe 3rd. I wanted to like it more, but the Roth casting was just wrong and the talking Abomination was, well, an abomination. After what we've seen the extra scene makes no sense now.

                Nevada (1944)

Well apparently I made a mistake at least according to IMDB's trivia section. This movie was released after Robert Mitchum's 2nd starring role but this is indeed his first. As it is, it's not much to write home about but i'm struck at just how nearly fully formed as an actor he was at this point in time. Mitchum was only 27 at the time yet he already had a strong command of the screen. He wasn't quite as big as he'd become in later film but he was almost there and he had an authoritative quality to his line delivery.

The only thing you didn't really get to see because he was just a "good guy" was that slight deviousness he could elicit just from lip movement or the look in his eye.

As a flick, this wasn't too bad but it's your typical good guy/bad guy western programmer but it had some likeable characters and moved at a good pace.

                ** stars mainly for Mitchum.

Next classic era movie will be the first "A" production i've seen in a while. A lush technicolor mostly fictionalized biopic of Jim Bowie starring Allan Ladd and of course Friday brings another Godzilla flick.

And for the youngsters who need a Robert Mitchum reference point:

I believe he was also the psychopath in the original "Cape Fear".

and in a neat bit of casting, he was Nick Nolte's lawyer in the remake.

Just Finished watching two movies. The first I saw before the second was something new. The first movie was The Sting starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. It's up there with one of my favorite movies ever. Newman was a brilliant actor and he has done many great films.

The second was Oblivion with Tom Cruise. I'm not a big Cruise fan but I enjoyed the movie. I'm a big fan of the whole post apocalyptic world setting and any movie with Morgan Freeman at least warrants a glance.

Just caught the Avengers again after seeing it last year and I still have the same annoyance that really has nothing to do with the film itself but ownership of the various marvel ips.

All that **** going down in Manhattan...and Spider-Man, a main Avenger for years, is nowhere to be found. MeH.
Other than that it was a great thrill to watch.

The ensemble was actually closer to members of the first 2 classes of the Avengers. Spider-Man may have been a main Avenger for years, but so were many other characters. I liked the fact that he wasn't there.

Avengers has been around for 50 years now, and Spider-man has been affiliated with them for less than half of that. And the vast majority of that is as a reserve member. And if I'm correct, he is no longer a main member in the comics currently. He spent less than a decade as a full member.

However, a producer of Avengers revealed that it actually would be possible for them to use Spider-man, as it would be beneficial to both sides. They're actually working on getting Venom first.

Oh i know Avengers history, the locale just got to me since Spider-Man is located mostly in NYC/Manhattan, and for how long i've been into comics Spidey has been associated with the Avengers in some capacity(and unrelated partially, the Fantastic Four as well)

Like i said though, nothing against the film itself, its a great movie, just my annoyance at the spread out Marvel film rights where Spidey couldn't even get a quick mention. Its all good though.

actually, i take that back. Teasing Thanos and using him in a SEPERATE movie (Guardians of the Galaxy) bothers me. But this isn't the thread for that.
