I really enjoyed Antman, it was really well done. It's definitely refreshing to have a smaller scale on one of these movies, not all about saving the world all the time.

True Story. Was really looking forward to this. I wanted to like it more, but maybe was difficult to because of the morose content involved.

I thought the best scene was (not much of a spoiler):

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Executive Decision (1996): out of the two famous "terrorists on a plane" movies from the '90s this one is far superior to Passenger 57. This film at least attempted to ground itself in some form of reality what with a military group trying to diffuse the bomb and stop the plane. The head terrorist played by David Suchet brings a realism to the part that is pretty chilling in some ways. There is one scene though that shows our Western way of thinking when it's revealed that Suchet is basically going to use the plane as a warhead a la 9/11 into Washington DC one of his underlings says that he will not be a party to that. It shows the niavete that we in the west had towards just how fanatical and crazy Islamic terrorists can be.

The great thing about this film is the fact that it eschews the "one man as hero" trope because while it's essentially Kurt Russell's movie his character is just one of many on the US commando team who all work together. It's rather refreshing to see that amidst all the (even more) improbable lone man action movies that came out in the '80s and '90s.

I give this flick a solid 3 stars.

Very good movie! I don't think I've laughed that hard in a very long time and Lebron is hilarious.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I started re-watching History of the World, Part I. Ya know, it's really not all that good in the first half. The cavemen stuff was extremely corny. Brooks as Moses was good, but much of the Roman period stuff was weak. A few good moments here and there (for a while we would say "...and bull****, bull****, bull****...and bull****, bull****.." when the situation warranted it). Madeline Kahn was typically great, but the lead he got as the love interest/vestal virgin was neither a good actress nor funny (though there wasn't much written for her in where she could have been funny). Plus, she having a love interest in Brooks just didn't cut it. I guess overall, the movie doesn't hold up, but there are some good lines to come out of it, with this of course being the all time:

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

So I checked out a film from Jean Claude Van Damme post his star period and it was....er interesting.

                    The Order (2001)

So basically Jean Claude is an illegal import/exports guy stealing valuable jewelry and such and selling to underworld types. His father is an archeologist who has this scroll from a little known religious order who want to get it back and use it for nefarious means. The father gets kidnapped in Israel and it's up to Jean Claude to rescue him etc etc.

The story is nothing special though it's notable that JCVD tried something a little out of his wheelhouse in terms of setting. Actually, that's the most notable thing about this flick as the majority of it is filmed in the Holy Land which makes for interesting and unique chase/fight scenes. Van Damme still had it at that time in terms of pulling off the fight scenes and he still had some charisma. The tone of the movie was a bit out of whack at times as a lot of "humor" was injected into it especially early on.

This movie also had the last live action role for Charlton Heston who basically had an extended cameo as JCVD's father's friend. Overall, it wasn't bad in the grand scheme of things. It's better than most of the DTV stuff that pops up. The unique setting definitely helps. I kinda zoned off and fell asleep in the last act but I got the gist of it all.

It's passable, nothing more, nothing less.

                      Trainwreck

                      Fitting title!

Just kidding, but compared to others here I wasn't into it either from a comedy or story standpoint. Don't get me wrong, I laughed plenty and wanted to know how things would end up, but my investment wasn't quite there compared to any other Judd Apatow film, including This Is 40.

Thankfully, the two things that saved it to being a pretty okay film are the ending and the ending. By that, I mean the actual ending itself, and the fact that it ended when it did. Apatow has had trouble cutting his movies down under two hours, and if this one went over that mark it would have well overstayed its welcome.

I don't really have any feelings one way or the other for Amy Schumer or LeBron James in this film, but I really enjoyed Bill Hader's performance. He was really the only character who I was concerned with regarding a resolution, and that's just too bad because I really wanted to feel more for Amy, but given her on-screen character nothing was there (minus one important scene).

I would not recommend this to others if I was the only one talking about it, but obviously my opinion probably isn't the strongest one here. I thought Bridesmaids was better and even that film had very bad, awkward dragging moments and flat jokes. This one just didn't have enough going on. And it's interesting because the majority of the theatrical trailer doesn't show much beyond what you'll see in the first forty minutes of the film, yet you can almost watch that trailer and still say that you've gotten a good chunk of the film out of the way. Though as I said, the ending saves it. I almost think this plot would have worked better if it didn't have the wacky comedy also included, even though I probably enjoyed those bits the most.

Once again though, my opinion is not the majority opinion. Go ahead and see it, and probably like it more than I did.

It's fine. Not great, but fine. I kinda hated Margo so the whole point of the movie, to find Margo, was kind of tainted for me. I didn't think she was worth finding. But it's a decent movie.

I think it's more interesting as a manic pixie dream girl deconstruction than it is as a movie.

Break Point. I would call this pretty much a "guy's movie", though some women may enjoy it. It doesn't seem much on the surface, but it had quite a few funny (not gut busting, but funny) moments. Features Jeremy Sisto, who's been in a mix of TV and movies, and David Walton (About A Boy) as brothers reunitiing to chase a tennis doubles dream, but have different approaches. J.K. Simmons and Adam Devine also star. Devine has a small, but somewhat humerous role. Simmons is the dad in a rather pedestrian role for him. I thought the little kid (student of Walton's, who plays a sub teacher), Barry, played by Joshua Rush (cartoon voices, Parental Guidance), stole the show. It was definitely entertaining enough and between the humor and feel good stuff, it was worth the look. Don't watch the trailer if you haven't because it'll ruin some of the humorous moments.

                            Synopsis from RottenTomatoes:

Jimmy Price is a reckless man-child on the last leg of his career as a doubles tennis player. When his latest partner drops him, he realizes he's officially burned all of his bridges on the pro circuit. He decides to make one last ditch effort to revive his career, reaching outside of the tennis world and convincing his childhood partner -- his estranged brother Darren, now an apathetic substitute teacher - to team up with him. The mismatched pair, with the help of a unique 11-year-old named Barry, make an unlikely run at a grand slam tournament and are forced to re-discover their game, and their brotherhood.

Watched John Wick when I got home last night.

I remember seeing the trailer on TV and being skeptical, but this was a really badass action flick. The fight/shoot scenes were great. Very well choreographed.
