What movies have you seen recently?

After recommendations here I checked out Frontier(s). It was just as freaky as everybody said and had some really effective parts that were very tense. After a while it did become overkill (pun intended) and became downright silly. Still, it was what was promised: a hardcore, new wave French horror flick and it delivered.

Silly as it sounds, with all of the over the top violence, part of what wore on me most was simply watching the woman just get beaten repeatedly. Ugh. Like Martyrs, seeing a woman constantly punched in the face or kicked, though obviously fake, really gets to you even as you've been watching a movie filled with dismemberments. Very hard to watch. Think I will take a break from brutal flicks for a little while. My humanity needs a break.

Yeah, glad I watched it. Enjoyed it more than Kill List, which had all sorts of plot issues as far as I am concerned.

My wife and I are going to see Don't Breathe this weekend. Looking forward to that.

Blazing Saddles yesterday. Of course, classic scenes and always enjoyable. I was never a great fan of the surreal ending Brooks settled on, but there's just so many great lines. Harvey Korman was such an underrated comedic actor. It's a shame he wasn't in more.

          Absolutely NSFW:

The Frisco Kid. Such an endearing movie. It's a very moderately paced movie if you've never seen it. To think how Wilder pulled off that accent (and then the scene of combining the Jewish and western accents) was brilliant, along with the mannerisms. Really showcases his talent. Also admittedly got a bit teary at the end, all things considered.

There's definitely lot of theories regarding Kill List.

            The one I subscribe to

            Spoiler

It definitely is one of those movies that tries pretty to be "thought provoking" to the point of just being confusing.

Frontier(s) is awesome, glad you liked it

Blazing Saddles is great and it's enduring popularity will also help to keep the essential Western Hero's name alive for future generations. I'm talking about Randolph Scott. I used to think that no one could touch John Wayne as the seminal western icon but as i've watched just about every western Scott was in I have to say that he's 1B IMO.

Anywho, this is how I hear Randolph's Scott's name in my head from now til the end of time:

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

                I just watched The Witch

This movie had been hyped to me as the new "scariest movie on the block." Basically was told it is on the same level as The Conjuring.

                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iQXmlf3Sefg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I actually really liked the movie, but it wasn't what I expected. I think there are maybe, like just barely, maybe 4 "jump scares" in the movie and none of them were all that "jumpy." This movie doesn't really tell you when you to be scared, it lets you decide, and I like that. Honestly I probably prefer this style over the OMGWTFLOUDNOISE jump scare filled flicks.

As a "horror film," I mean, I really dunno what that means anymore, but I guess it could be considered disappointing as it really didn't "scare" me the way a Conjuring or Sinister does. But it does pull off some pretty unsettling moments and some pretty vivid imagery. It's kind of hard for me to think of another movie to compare it to, as far as the type of "scary movie" this is. Maybe it is somewhat like Silence of the Lambs, or The Orphanage, in the sense that it is more about atmosphere than LOUDNOISEOMG

Honestly I appreciate a movie like this that can pull off being scary, or at least kind of scary, without just throwing in random sudden volume changes disguised as jump scares as a cheap tactic.

The Witch was the worst marketed movie in ages. It is not a horror movie in the traditional sense. It is based on folklore and accounts of that era in history. If you go in expecting to be horrified, you will be disappointed. If you go in looking for a dark, entertaining, thoughtful movie, you will probably like this. Just check your expectations.

                    Transformers 1

First time I've ever watched the movie; I liked the idea of the movie and the action scenes were AWESOME but it felt kindly piece-mealed versus really being in-sync...I didn't really get into the government plotline either.

I do kind of wish, as it was the first movie in the series, that more focus would be on the origins and character development of the robots and the kid. Shia was a perfect casting but it felt kindly wasted at the end. I guess it's one of those movies that you see so many issues that could've been corrected but you'll still watch it because it's awesome (and who doesn't remember playing with a transformer as a kid?!?).

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I thought it was terrible and it was somewhat difficult to understand what they were saying. I do agree it was marketed terribly.

I remember seeing the VVitch for free around the same time as BvS.

That movie was weird. It was kind of hard to follow as well...

                          Yeah.

Like I said, I felt like I went into it expecting a "Conjuring" type movie and it was as far from that as a "dark movie" could still be.

I liked it though. Some really well done scenes

Half the people don't know the name of the movie is even Edge of Tomorrow. They all think it's Live. Die. Repeat.

Once it came out on Blu-ray, I think they said "**** it" and just changed the official title to exactly that.
