These are advance screening opportunities I have within the next week plus. There is one conflict though:

    Live By Night
    The Bye Bye Man/Patriots Day
    Split

As you can see, there is a time conflict between The Bye Bye Man and Patriots Day. I think I'd rather see the latter, but I wanted your opinions if you have heard about either film yet.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Who knows if I've seen it since my last post in this thread about it in 2013(wouldn't be surprised if I did), but decided to re-watch the Harry Potter series over the past week or so. I think it's also first time doing so since Alan Rickman (Snape) died.

It'll never get old for me. Still hate how the book came out years before the movie, so everyone I knew who read the books, spoiled it for me before the movies came out. But 10 years of the movie being such a relevant thing, speculating with friends/family throughout the entire 10+ years about every topic in the series, I miss those days. Sure, they have the new series out, but it's still nothing like the Harry Potter series itself. Anytime I hear that music from the movie, I get all nostalgic.

There's lots of great movies out there and all that I love, but this series just has that extra special feeling for me. Decades from now, I can see myself still watching the movies from time to time.

I have heard so many different things about Patriots day. I have heard it was a great movie to a good movie to something that never should be made. And the feeling around Boston is that it was released too close to the attacks about 4 years ago. I hate 99.9% of what Barstool does but here's a good description of the movie (note it obviously comes from a Bostonian's POV.). http://www.barstoolsports.com/boston...damn-powerful/

I'm personally going to wait and it see later as it does still hit home a little bit that this all happened and I don't want to see it all unfold, again, at this moment. I mean I remember this day so vividly and remember exactly where I was and what I did that whole day. Kinda like most with the terrorist attacks on 9/11; I don't remember that day because I was young at the time.

I'd rather see Live by Night. But, I pretty much have hated Wallyburger in any role hes done outside of Sargeant Digby.

Edit: misread. Bye bye man looks like trash to me.

Wife and I watched Horrible Bosses 2 last night. Obviously can't compete with the original but it was still pretty damn funny. A lot better than I thought it would be.

Pitch Perfect. Impulse re-watch. Lots of funny lines to enjoy again. A few cringe moments.

I saw Passengers last night and thought while the performances were good and the visuals were great, the whole premise and set-up and the turning point in the movie (without getting too spoilery, Pratt's decision) could not be reconciled.

Saw a smaller release called Remember with Christopher Plummer as an elderly man with dementia hunting down the old Nazi guard who killed his family at Auschwitz. Intriguing idea, great performance by Plummer and some intense scenes, but the ending didn't quite ring true.

I thought Remember was well done. Plummer is so easily liked as an actor and it was great to see Martin Landeau in one more role.

Yeah Landeau was great. Hell, the whole cast - including Dean Norris, Bruno Ganz and Juergen Prochnow - was outstanding.

I went for some Cannon Films schlock tonight and watched the first 2 American Ninja movies. (i'm skipping the rest as i've heard they really pale in comparison to the first two) I gotta say for what it was, the first AN film was highly entertaining and I liked the brooding quiet persona of Michael Dudikoff. Lots of acceptable fight choreography and while the story is completely unbelievable it was presented with just enough earnestness to not strain credulity too much.

The 2nd film wasn't nearly as successful and tried to use more humor than the first film. The plot here broke my suspension of disbelief but the presence of Dudikoff and Steve James made it at least worth while. I will admit I zoned out heading into the climax of the film but woke up to see it all go down. The climax of the original film was a lot better but I can't really fault the cast and crew for that as Cannon slashed the budget quite a bit for the 2nd film.

All in all, not bad escapism.

Saw an old classic, Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow Of a Doubt (1943), starring Teresa Wright and Joseph Cotton as the psychopathic uncle. Very good flick, but I still put The Best Years of Our Lives as Teresa Wright's best film, at least out of the the ones I've watched.

The Best Years of Our Lives for my money is still the best film dealing with homefront/aftermath of war. Truly a great film.

                                Well, fellas, guess what?

                                M. Night has made two non-terrible movies in a row, and you aren't living in the 90s! I know The Visit wasn't a masterpiece, but it was pretty decent in my opinion. A step in the right direction considering his string of awfulness beforehand.

I was able to see Split last night. It's very good, maybe even almost great. I think most everyone who ever liked his work will at least consider it "solid".

I think the wide release hits next week. Check it out. Don't let it get spoiled for you. People will try to recommend this movie to you using references to other movies, references that person probably considers non-spoilerly, but even that could be risky. I think it is safest to just say if you ever enjoyed M. Night's work, check this out. You'll thank me later.
