3 Billboards. Was really looking forward to this. Really like Frances McDormand, especially in Fargo. This was quite offbeat. Not sure that it was really a dark comedy, but certainly a strange flow. Some great scenes but honestly didn't care for the ending all that much.

      John Wick is flawless.

I saw Wonder Woman in theaters and liked it, but something about seeing it this second time just drove it home so much more for me. It would probably be in my top 10 superhero movies. The action is great to watch and well directed, not shaky cam nonsense. Diana is really genuine and well acted, the scene with her in No Man's Land was just epic. All of this made me so upset when I went to re-watch Man of Steel. He just had his best outing in Justice League, so I wanted to see if I'd feel better about Man of Steel now (I hated it when it came out, one of my most hated movies of all time). The Krypton stuff still sucks, I thought this was inevitable at first, but having now seen them pull off something equally as difficult in Themsycira, it just stands out even more. Cavill is great as Superman though, and I felt a little better about him at least. One of the complaints I see all the time about the movie is he isn't Super enough, like helping people, but they had the scene where he saves the bus as a kid, I can't remember exactly what it is but there was a scene where he goes out of his way while fighting Zod to save someone. And that score...incredible. Honestly the music alone almost saves it. Superman has the best theme music.

Doctor Strange was as impressive visually on blu-ray as I remembered in theaters. Awesome effects, I'm still thinking about the way they kept shifting the rooms they were in to change the battle, really creative stuff from marvel.

Rogue One is a beauty. I can't say enough about that final scene. There's just a real sense of terror that I don't think has ever been captured in Star Wars before. It sold the character perfectly, you can just feel the rebels fear.

The Force Awakens I like but I am not as high as others, the way it apes A New Hope is just a little too blatant for me. Also having seen The Last Jedi, I wish JJ had kept going. He's always been great at setups and terrible at finishing them, this time he set up the trilogy, and now he's escaped and left the bag in someone else's hands lol, I hate it.

The most surprising to me was Amazing Spider-Man. I've seen both 1 and 2 once before, but I dunno. I really enjoyed it a lot more than I did the first time. It is clearly above Tobey 1 and 3, Amazing 2, and on the top tier with Tobey 2 and Homecoming. Garfield was doing a great job acting, and Peter and Gwen's relationship and chemistry was great (not hard to believe given they were dating in real life), but I guess people felt like he wasn't really playing the Peter Parker they expected...I can kinda see that. I didn't necessarily feel that way, somber as Peter, and he was great as Spider-Man. I didn't have an issue with the skateboarding, and really loved the scene where he's skating in the warehouse and practicing swinging on the iron chains.

I know we all know how he got his powers and people were happy to skip the origin in Homecoming, but this movie made me miss it. There's just something about Spider-Man, maybe it's because he's a younger hero, I just feel like I need that montage of him ****ing around and finally starting to understand it. It does so much for his character. You could see in Amazing Spider-Man the transition of how getting the powers made him change from introverted teenager to someone who believed he could make a difference. I also can't believe they got Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and then didn't let him say the line. Sacrilege.
I've said this since Civil War came out, and I'm going to have it on my headstone.

Tobey Maguire was a really good Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield was a really good Spider-Man, Tom Holland is perfect as both.

        The Last Jedi
I finally saw this on Friday and left the theater in a completely euphoric state. I'm not an uber Star Wars fan, but I had some "moments" throughout that just confirmed my love for the lore and universe of the series. The final scene just hit me right in the heart-bone even though it was an off-hand scene to close the movie. It's not a flawless film, but nothing to me breaks the movie nor the brand. Those petitoning to extricate it from canon? Nonsensical.

        Spider-Man: Homecoming
I like the cast. I like the story they went with. Hell, even the spliced in Tony Stark angle felt better and more organic that I imagined. Something still felt "off." To me it never reached the AAA status of Avengers, Captain America, or Iron Man movies. The tone-quality felt a step above the Marvel Netflix series for some reason. Still, it's a very good movie. Like mentioned previously I think the origin story with Tom would be great to see in this universe, but I can understand why they wouldn't want to retread. The reveal of Michael Keaton's character in relation to Peter Park just felt too on the nose, but outside of that it was a very enjoyable film. It comes close and maybe even ties the first Maguire Spiderman movie, but several notches below Spiderman 2.

Got around to watching 'Logan' and 'It' this weekend. Both are superb in my opinion! Also watched 'Justice League' and 'Leatherface', but wasn't too impressed with either.

I, Tonya. Must see. Great cast. Great presentation. Great flow. Pulled off the skating routines flawlessly.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I finally saw Get Out and boy was the ending Meh!!!! Yes this is like 10 months after its release so I think that's half to blame for my dislike of the ending but still. The hype around the movie was on subtle racism. Subverted racism that you sort of have to do a double take to realize. That was the hype and word surrounding the movie.

A lot of that came through and wasn't lost on the audience. The hints and flashes "no pun attended" really worked well to tell the audience of course there was something wrong in the midst of all. I guess my biggest take away was the flipping of the genre at the end. Again, if the hype wasn't surrounding the movie and I had possibly seen it before the hype starte I probably would of been blown away by the ending but it just did nothing for me. I have to give Peele credit where credit is due, all the symbolism and hints thrown at what the bigger picture was, was fantastic. Flipping the genre in the end was like "wow" but it just didn't work for me.

I finally saw Justice League. I thought it had some good moments, but overall lacked a cohesiveness throughout the movie. I can see where DC fanboys would be downright giddy about this move. Also, people complain about Marvel villains, but I thought Steppenwolf was just downright silly, but his minions were actually pretty cool. In the end it sort of felt like watching a bunch of cutscenes from a video game pasted together. Observations about the Flash were spot on though. His quirky, Aspberger-y presentation and comments were quite good.

Just curious what your viewing environment was. I feel like this is potentially the make-or-break portion of it for some people.

I guess sound is the more important aspect, unless you're watching on a 70mm IMAX screen (in which case... yeah sound is so very important). Got any sort of HT system? Just curious.

I just wish anyone who is anyone got to see this thing in 70mm IMAX. I've been immersed by films in that format before, but I've never said that a film is meant for that format until Dunkirk.

I mean don't get me wrong, a film shouldn't only be able to be good in that way, but once you've seen it that way then you can be accepting of what it's really like, then you can go watch it on the iPad or whatever haha.

I loved this film, personally. Then again, I did see it three times in 70mm IMAX as well.

Had a day with my wife and daughter yesterday which included taking in "The Greatest Showman". I really hadn't paid too much attention to the movie other than it was about P.T. Barnum...it is a musical! I say that jokingly, I don't mind musicals that much, but the regret of passing up seeing The Justice League raced through my mind. The movie was ok. The musical score and choreography was pretty sharp, but the storyline followed the typical Hollywood format.

Basically the Dunkirk-o-phites are not going to let you get away with that. I watched it on a 65 inch 4K. I think if I would have watched it in super-panorama-imaxian-wide angle broadcast across the ceiling of the whitest dome there is, I wouldn't have liked it any better. The jumping of scenes between the different perspectives left us disinterested over the course of the event. So I'm with you on this one.
