Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Was bored the other day after learning how to configure my router with linux commands, watched this probably for the first time from start to finish.
Kenny: Ok Vic, I'm ready for some girl on girl action.
Vic: No Kenny, that's girl versus girl.
    Kenny: What's the difference?
Vic: Well, in one, one girl wins. In the other....
    Kenny: Everyone wins?!?!

    Captain Tenneal: Get it on!

I just finished watching Warrior (2011) and I think it was a fantastic movie. One of the better "fighting" movies that I can remember seeing.

Great movie. I remember when this came out I hadn't even heard of it. Took a flier on it and was blown away.

Wonder Woman, Justice League, Batman v Superman.

We enjoyed watching them, but wow is DC way behind Marvel. The first half or so of BvS was so confusing and not very good...the end with the action was better.

Wonder Woman was good, we liked that the best.

Justice League was ok. Affleck's acting was uninspired, like he didn't care. Flash was hilarious. Just didn't quite click, but has us interested in the future movies.

Did you see the Ultimate Edition of BvS, by chance?

I absolutely hated the first half (and overall pacing) of the theatrical cut of BvS, but significantly tolerated the extended cut much much more.

No, i just got streaming from google play...the extended would have been like 10 bucks more or something odd. I've heard that cut is at least better, but the theatrical one is wow. We saw Wonder Woman first, so was crazy how different they were.

I understand. Yeah, if at some point you can give the other edition a chance, I think you'll probably have the same sentiment I had. Again, I loathed the first half of Dawn of Justice in theaters. I bought the 3D version on Blu-ray which had the ultimate cut, but unfortunately the 3D was the theatrical only. So I watched the 2D UE and then the 3D TC, because hell I already bought it. Sadly, I won't ever watch the 3D one again. If not only because of that, but also because it's basically just a very dark film, and the 3D wasn't that effective as a result. But yep, 2D all the way from hereon out.

BvS, WW, and JL all suffered from a poor third act for me, though. JL was the best because of the Supes moments, but it still lagged behind the stuff leading up to it for me. I agree with you on WW being the best of the three, though.

Yeah, I can understand that....There were moments too that WW made a "superhero" glance/pose and just felt goofy. Like we'd laugh but not at a joke. Superman's mouth in JL due to reshoots and Kavill's mustache was very obvious too (they CG'ed it out).

They need to make us care more too. Marvel is so great at setting the feeling/gravity of things.

There's potential here though...I'm hoping with Snyder gone that they'll adapt things and the next movies will fix some of the issues.

There's also a lot of things that just don't make sense. Like why Batman didn't just buy Martha Kent's house after Superman died? Or him accusing Diana of not caring yet forgetting that she came and helped in BvS, and earlier in JL she stopped a robbery or whatever that was.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I'll have to see JL again to poke at the plot holes in it, but you can bet it's riddled with them especially with the change of hands in director. The Cavill mustache thing was just weird. I saw a pre-screening of the film before I had even been informed of the news, and I'm sitting there going like: "What's going on with his mouth?" I had to look it up, and sure enough there was a peculiarly odd reason.

Anyway, unrelated... I'm filling in for a morning class for a colleague and they are finishing up Forrest Gump. This is one of those movies that I haven't seen and kind of don't care to, and I'm not saying that what I saw confirmed it but I'm still not particularly interested in all that happened before the last half hour. I know that's no way to see a movie, but I don't give some movies enough credit and this unfortunately just happens to be one of them. Perhaps I'm not too crazed about the simple life, or maybe I'm too stuck into seeing this as "Tom Hanks performing" instead of getting more immersed into the world that is, and I understand that is completely my doing. At least now I can say that I've gotten a slice of what the film is like (though I understand that it "spans several decades," so I'm sure I missed a lot of the good younger years portions). It would be like only seeing the last half hour of Into the Wild. Anyway, I'm not exactly ready to go find it online to stream somewhere or go buy the Blu-ray or anything. I guess I'll just run across it when nature has its way to allow me so, and leave my final impression then.

Got to do my first Memento screening after school yesterday for 22 students. I hosted an hour-plus long discussion with activities that went marvelously. Every year I get more people, I feel like the film gets to stretch out a little bit more to a wider group of people. Nolan deserves to have more acclaim on his resume to the casual crowd than just Batman. I really wish The Prestige was still on Netflix, because that's what people looked really interested in when I showed trailers of his other films right before Memento.

Star Trek (2009). Great rewatch value every time. Perfectly casted. I thought the Romulans presentations at time could have been better. The subtle humor was great. I could have done without Scotty's little alien sidekick.

To this day I am highly disappointed they never made a Star Trek movie involving the Deep Space Nine story line and cast. The Dominion war would have made a great movie. Section 31 would have made a great movie too. It was a missed opportunity really.

I watched this movie at least 50 times during the 1990s. It is one of my all time favorite movies.

I would think from a movie standpoint, Paramount would need to go with what is most popular and generate ticket sales. I would wager Deep Space Nine is basically for the hard core Trekkies. I never actually got into it. NG was good for its time. I wouldn't hold my breath for a DSN movie as it would probably flop simply because the general public is not familiar with it.

Deep Space Nine was the #1 syndicated show in the USA in the 1990s. Would it flop if a movie was made today ? Probably because the younger generation is use to the BS Star Trek movies they make now. But if they made the movies during the 1990s and early 2000s it would have done well just like the Star Trek The Next Generation movies.
