Re: Conan's Reign Begins - The Tonight Show
lol...Leno's ego basically ****ed NBC. He said he'd retire to avoid the drama that happened when he took the show over. The wheels of succession started turning, only for Leno to change his mind when it came time to step down. That forced NBC's hand, and they made the compromise.
Leno's new show bombed, and was hurting Conan's show just by existing. Leno got the better guests, destroyed the lead in ratings, and made Conan redundant as the 2nd show of the night.Comment

Re: Conan's Reign Begins - The Tonight Show
Leno's manipulations and such at NBC makes me believe that book that was written about the Carson Succession even more (I forget the name of the book) Leno seems to be a real bastard in real life.
Oh well, I hope Conan says "eff you!" and leaves NBC.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Yup - TMZ is very reliable these days. They had all the death reports hours before any other site got their own information on it. Not sure why people are saying they aren't reliable. They may be trash news, but they're very reliable.Comment

I don't know the contract details, such as no-compete clauses or whatever...but if Conan ended up without a network, I fully expect him on Fox or ABC going head-to-head with Leno within two months.Co-Commish of the OS Vets I & II

Re: Conan's Reign Begins - The Tonight Show
Leno is averaging more than 3M more viewers a night than Conan... I wouldn't say Leno bombed in comparison to Conan. And don't blame it on guests, as Conan has had plenty of great guests.Comment

Re: Conan's Reign Begins - The Tonight Show
Leno is in primetime, and his ratings are poor enough for affiliates to complain about it killing their local news. It is such an outright failure of a show that NBC wants to push it back AND cut it down to 30 minutes. All this while still making Conan's show look 2nd and less important.
If Conan doesn't work on The Tonight Show, then he doesn't work. I always wondered if he'd translate to that slot myself, but it's not like NBC gave him a fair shot either. NBC is just screwing themselves with how they've managed all this.Last edited by bkfount; 01-09-2010, 02:52 PM.Comment

Re: Conan's Reign Begins - The Tonight Show
I'm not saying Leno's show is doing great by any means, but it IS averaging 6M a night. Conan is averaging 2M; Leno averaged the same in that slot as he is in his new one. That is a 4M viewer swing from one season of The Tonight Show to the next, so yeah, this falls on Conan as well.Leno is in primetime, and his ratings are poor enough for affiliates to complain about it killing their local news. Conan IS less important to NBC than Leno. That is just how the cards are. Leno is more marketable, so he is more valuable to them. Leno wasn't even talking to other companies when NBC decided to open negotiations about a new series for him. There were whispers that another broadcaster would try and pick him up, so NBC overshot any bid there would have been.Comment

Re: Conan's Reign Begins - The Tonight Show
If he goes to Fox, he could start at 11PM. As far as I know, all Fox stations have News at 10PM and usually some syndicated show or animated show at 11PM. At 11PM, he probably could get more people and even if people didn't watch the whole show, they could start there and then switch to Leno.Comment

Re: Conan's Reign Begins - The Tonight Show
I liked Leno on the Tonight Show, so I hope he goes back to something like that. I wouldn't watch his new show because I don't like how it took away primetime shows.

I'm not surprised. Conan's material to me isn't funny and simply put very childish...Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

I know Conan isn't for everybody, but I think he is very creative and always seem to be having a good time. Leno is very generic to me.
