Panasonics are a clear number one with the deepest blacks (unless you're considering the high end Pioneer Kuro's which are no longer being made). Samsungs are more known for their LCDs, but make good plasmas although their 09 models had issues with making buzzing noises. LG has been around the least, but are building a reputation of having good/great PQ and giving more features than similarly priced sets.

Any thoughts on this set anyone? I found it on Sears.com and it said $664, but then I clicked it and it took me to newegg and its $749.
IMO though, go bigger. 50" is not to big for your living room. You seriously cannot go "to big" unless you're talking 70". I am 10 feet from my TV and easily could have gone 50" in my BEDROOM and it looked goodComment

Re: Plasma Owners?
I have the 720p version of that TV. Looks pretty amazing I must say.

Re: Plasma Owners?
this is why I suggest going to a store to check out what you want to buy. the stores may not have it calibrated and whatnot, but you can get a general idea of what to expect. besides, it's another excuse to go to stores and check out electronics, and who doesn't love that? although it may be suicide this time of year.Comment

Although its tough to get a good idea on size in the stores I think. I mean my 32'' lcd looks big in my living room but they look pint sized in the store.Comment

Re: Plasma Owners?
For me I still like LCD's better. But not becasue of the picture, but because the Plasma make it look too good, not real at all. I watched a Sharks game on a Plasma then I went to a real live Sharks game and the colors were not that sharp at all. At least with a LCD it is a little more closer to life for at least. I have mine calibrated to be more life like colors and less pop out rich colors. But you can't go wrong with a Plasma. Though I still would be aware of gaming on a plasma. If Plasma was so great for gaming on them you would think they would have a plasma monitor for computers.Comment

Re: Plasma Owners?
I agree with you. I saw the plasmas next to the lcds and imo there is no comparison. I love the "sheen" of the plasma screen. Everything just looks more alive.

Many people choose LCDs b/c they are much brighter and better suited for a room with a lot of natural or uncontrolled light. And most people are used to the brightness because they spend so much time on a PC or laptop. They are also lighter, give off less heat, a little more efficient although plasmas have closed the energy consumption gap.
We have a difference of opinion on screen sizes. If the tv is the centerpiece of your room, then you should go as big as your budget allows, IMO. You'll be surprised at how quickly you get adjusted to having a "bigger" screen.
I can't imagine having smaller than a 50 inch set in my bedroom now.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 12-21-2009, 11:18 AM.Comment

Re: Plasma Owners?
It is the fact that I want my picture to look life like not all deck out. That is cool you like your plasma I am just saying why I didn't get a plasma. It was just too bright and rich of colors. I also notice they have a lot more LCD than Plasma at Sears and Bestbuy. Why is that? I thought Plasma were more popular? I am glad you guys love your plasmas. I was just saying why I didn't get one.Comment

So you prefer LCDs b/c they have an inferior picture? Am I reading this right?I used to own a LCD and like them, but that wasn't one of the reasons I used for purchasing.

So that is why they don't have Plasma monitors? I figure it was the burn in issues some have had before the newer Plasmas. Good to know.Comment

Re: Plasma Owners?
every Plasma you look at has it written some where great for sports and gaming, it has to be written like that for a reason. Now that the nerves had died down for me, I have been playing my PS3 with Zero issues. You can't compare the refresh- rate on a Plasma compared to an LCD while gaming, it's really that much better.Every set that I see says that. Glad you have not been worrying about the IR issues. Also you say that is great for gaming. Is it really that much better than the Sony you had? Or are they about the same? Just curious since you have had both.
