Re: Dexter (Season 5)
I wonder if maybe his weight is for the show. Something just isn't right with the dude (the character, not the actor).
Someone mentioned this earlier in the thread. I think I have to agree that something is up with his character and the writers are just pulling us on a string by making it appear like it's another Doakes situation. It's definitely not."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I have to say this episode may have been the worst I have ever seen. With the high school banter between Quinn and Deb and the who the **** cares how much money LaGuarta has in her bank account storyline it really seems the writers are running out of ideas with the side characters. Both seem to come off as a pretty bad soap opera storyline and getting way too much facetime.
The writing and acting was pretty cringe worthy with Dex and the kids but at least they've been shipped off to the grandparents so we don't have to suffer anymore with them.
The writing has been pretty sloppy so far with the 1st episode of Dex taking off to who knows where with no money or luggage and breaks his code in a nanosecond in a washroom and isn't worried leaving evidence after sloppily killing someone. And it's never mentioned again.
Then this episode you had Dex talking with the neighbour at his house and no one mentions about his shed being torched last week in the backyard. You figure that would be an issue with the neighbours. And when Dex finds the kids at home after skipping school just staring at the bathtub. Were they standing there for 6 straight hours just staring because that's how Dex finds them there.
Then with that killer leaving multiple barrels in the middle of a small swamp. Who taught this guy as to how to get rid of bodies because putting them in floating barrels which could be easily retrieved isn't something I or anyone with half a brain would do. It was also quite convenient that Dex happens to be there the moment he decides to dump another barrel into the swamp and in the middle of the day to boot. Is he scared to drive at night? This guy needs to be killed just because he's too stupid to live.
It looks like Michael Hall is bored and distracted (probably because of his health scare) and the writers seem to be mailing it in and sloppy with thier storylines. I have a feeling this is gonna be a disappointing season like the 3rd season as they are running out of ideas.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 10-07-2010, 09:50 PM.Comment

Re: Dexter (Season 5)
It looked to me like Dex had moved all of his stuff to a shipping container somewhere. That didn't look like a shed/his backyard.Comment

Re: Dexter (Season 5)
Well even if it was, wouldn't there be security there and have noticed that someone torched the place. I had stuff in those kind of storage facilites and there is no way I could go in the middle of the day and light up the place without being noticed. That's part of the sloppy writing, they don't even tell us where he was when he started the fire. I always thought his stuff was in the backyard shed unless I missed the part when he moved everything.Comment

Re: Dexter (Season 5)
Dexter did move all his stuff to that shipping container in season 4. The one where his mom was killed.
Remember when Cody hurt himself playing with friends and something happened to the shed? After that Dexter moved his killing tools and all that stuff out of there.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: Dexter (Season 5)
But Quinn's weight loss isn't good for the show, I mean talk about continuity. A year ago (plot a few hours) prior to Rita's murder, man was fine. Fast forward and he's anorexic!
Spoiler
I hear this week's episode is gonna be pretty good. The Director said it was one of the sickest scenes he has ever shot.
Actually if you wanna know more then:
Spoiler
It involves a scene with hundreds of bugs/flies/maggots.

Re: Dexter (Season 5)
I mentioned that Quinn may not be all that he appears and let's hope thry go there. With the weight loss though he doesn't look that gaunt it just looks like he started working out like crazy because he was kinda pudgy last season and with some people even with healthy weight loss they lose alot in thier face. The rest of his body looks pretty fit, certainly not Chandler like.

The scene with him randomly killing the guy and his dad saying: "That's the first human thing I've seen you do," confused the hell out of me. That entire scene was backwards. Dexter killing a man he had no evidence on and his dad telling him that it was ok? That it was human?
I also wondered the same about the shipping yard and no one noticing a fire. Then again, many things have happened in that shipping yard and I just wrote it off as: It's been established that there is simply no security in that shipping yard because Dexter has been in some many nonsensical situations there including when he was a baby. It seems to be the safe place to go for the writers to do anything they want.
I'm not concerned about the guy leaving the barrels because let's face it, he doesn't look like the brightest guy in the world. I think we're past the phase of serial killers being just as smart as Dexter. This new guy is just an idiot. His entire set-up at the home is also a disaster. Send the police there right now and he gets caught.
As for crying scenes on the show: eh, crying scenes are hardly ever, ever good. They really just shouldn't be done on television or film. Let's look at this realistically. If you took a real life Astor, do you think she'd act the way Astor did on the show when Dexter talks to her by the car (the scene where she goes into the minivan and shuts the door)? The answer is no. People don't cry like that. People mostly cry in private.
The one thing I hate most about television is this faulty belief that you need to show people crying to tell us they cried. I don't need to see Astor cry to know that she cried. Her mother just freaking died. Of course she cried!
Finally, the side stories. They are what they are. The side stories will never be good because most of us just want to see Dexter. I doubt many people really give a crap about LaGuerta. That stuff is needed to show that the other characters are "real" but I will never expect that their stories will affect anyone. Have they ever?"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Dexter (Season 5)
The funniest part of the suspension of disbelief is Dexter freely going on his laptop and gets all this info in 10 seconds like he did with the latest guy he's going after. I know where I work if I am looking thru confidential computer files I better explain why because my user ID will show that I was looking thru them. How Dexter can easily look for potential victims with no alarm bells going off with IT security is beyond me. Especially when all these people have gone missing afterwards like the female police officer last season.
And lets got into how all these visitors get to walk freely among the office day or night where there is confidential police info lying on desks eveywhere.Comment

As to your other points, I agree about this last episode being the worst. The whole Deb-Quinn thing is sickening, and is only redeemable if Quinn is off his rocker in one way or another and maybe not even then. And the kids should have been gone early in episode one. I don't what know I cringed at more, the farewell kid scene or Debra calling Quinn on the phone with, "OK we had sex". GAGGGGGComment
