It's already been said that this universe does not share the same universe as Nolan's batman.

I'm excited for the sequel, think the way it's been set up that it can be better then this one as long as they can get another decent villain story.

Also regarding fighting I've never really seen Superman throw a kick in all the cartoons I watched as a kid.

Man Of Steel’s biggest plot twist involves the revelation that the Codex—the thing Shannon is after, but which the audience has a really hard time caring about—was inside Cavill all along. This, however, probably won’t spark as many discussions as Zod’s death—or, for that matter, the movie’s final scene, wherein Cavill dons fake glasses and shows up to his first day of work as a Daily Planet reporter. It’s a crowd-pleasing, franchise-continuity-defining coda. It also doesn’t make much sense.
Unlike the popular, overachieving scholar-athlete of most prior depictions, Man Of Steel’s Clark Kent is a working-class drifter with no close friends. So how does he suddenly land a non-janitorial job at the DC universe’s Newspaper of Record? The short answer to this question is that Man Of Steel’s plot was cooked up by David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan—two writers who’ve never met a plot hole that they couldn’t overlook.
The source of Superman’s powers changes several times—from the Sun to the Earth’s atmosphere to a combination of the two. The US government can’t find Cavill, but all Amy Adams has to do is interview an IHOP manager. Like Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (also co-plotted by Goyer), Man Of Steel is a field day for narrative nitpickers.

Had no problem with Superman snapping Zod's neck especially after the agony he was clearly in after doing so. Besides he really didn't want to but Zod gave him no choice. I thought Cavill was great as Superman and I can;t wait for the sequel. I have man of steel in my top 10 of comic book movies but there was one scene that I felt was the most powerful scene I've ever seen in a comic book movie which was when he puts out the world engine his will combined with the music just made it such an emotionally powerful scene for me.

We keep going over this and over this...but the reality is Superman tried to kill Zod in the Donner set of movies and killed Nuclear Man...killed Zod and other phantom zone escapees in the Pre -52 universe and was a freaking death dealing machine in the roughly first decade of his existence as a character....So insisting that The Super Friends Saturday cartoon version is the one that's TRUE to the character is too say you"re close minded to all story possibilities that don't fit the narrow view you've established.

The glasses and secret identity goes back to the suspension of disbelief. It doesn't make a lot of sense...that's true, but it's what it is for the story and the superhero concept as a whole. You either accept it and move on with the story or get hung up on it. As a whole, it's no less sillier than many other film/story devices/cliches. I can't argue you into accepting it...but trying to point it out like it should bother everybody else is equally useless.

I loved the film and loved the action as well. No one can say Superman doesn't punch anything in this film. I am always open to new interpretations of the character I don't need it follow everything exactly as it is in comics, tv and the other films. To me it was a great newer version of the character and went along for the ride. I also respect others who didn't enjoy it as they have their own ideas of how the character should be portrayed. So I can see it from both sides on why people enjoyed it as well as disliked it.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I want his alter ego to bother anyone else, this is the first time I've quoted something that brought it up. As far as suspension of disbelief, yes, there are parts that you are just going to have to accept because it's a fantastical character but that doesn't make it any less dumb. After reading the interviews, it seemed like they were avoiding the usual Clark Kent alter ego so it was surprising that after talking about how much they wanted to "ground" the film, they went back to the hilariously dumb idea that a guy can show his face to the world but put some glasses on and no one but Lois realizes who it is. Also, just because some suspension of disbelief is required, that doesn't mean that it's ok to throw anything out there without some kind of reason for doing so. They went so far out of their way to position this as a new take on Superman and but went right back to the same hokey stuff that makes people laugh at the character.

Even without looking at quotes from the filmmakers, Clark's transition from working menial jobs to becoming a reporter made no sense, like the reviewer said. He just shows up and is all of a sudden handed a job.

That Kal-El's whole character development was told thru flashbacks. That bothered me so much when I was watching the movie because it made me feel as if the crew was saying "here you know who superman is" when I don't. I don't know Superman's struggles, I don't know what it's like to be him like I do with characters like spiderman or iron man. I can relate to them more simply because they are still human and can die and are susceptible to bullets and things of that nature.

At the end of the movie I walked out STILL not caring for the character superman. And that's disappointing because from the previews I thought hey this one might help me like this character.

So many things just weren't spelled out enough, like the scream when he killed Zod. I get it because of my limited knowledge of the type of person superman is but for me the actual movie didn't help explaining that. I also wanted to see more scenes like the one with Kal-El as a child. It was awesome to see him so vulnerable and struggling to understand himself. Would have LOVED to have more build up for when his earthly father died. That scene being a flashback was just ugh.. really?

OVerall its a good movie but not a great one by any stretch, definitely didn't enjoy it as much as Iron Man 3.

You do realize that earlier in the film Clark was working on a secure military/science outpost? I imagine that screening process is a bit more rigorous than the Daily Planets but he fabricated his way through that too. Just factor in his superpowers and you'll realize how easy it'd be to get away with stuff like this.

...and I'm pretty sure that he didn't just show up and get a job...but with a running time of almost 3 hours, did they really need to show Perry reading Clark's samples/resume then show the interviewing process and/or pulitzer prize winning Lois Lane recommending him to Perry but her asking him to keep it on the downlow so the rest of the staff didn't give to Clark too much hell for being a vanity hire? Did they need to ACTUAL show all that so people wouldn't think he took a cardboard sign out of the window that said hiring and just started reporting stuff?

Like any superhero movie I just want to be entertained with good action and a good story, which it did for me and just didnt for some others. Some people just have different tastes of entertainment, no need break out into long arguments.

I'm always shocked at how much analysis people go into for these types of movies. Like any superhero movie I just want to be entertained with good action and a good story, which it did for me and just didnt for some others. If the action would've been entertaining, then I would've been more than willing to overlook the problems but since it was so boring, I had a chance to think about the flaws. I like the Transformers movies even though they have the dumbest plots on the planet because the action is entertaining. Warner tried to make a more serious Superman movie with good action and failed on both counts.

As far as not understanding how or why people could write a lot about it, I'll just chalk that up to you liking the movie and not wanting to see criticism cause you've spent years on a message board about sports and video games and have gone in-depth on entertainment-related topics. I'm not sure why you keep visiting the thread if all you want to see is someone stop their comment, then leave.

Come on.....

I brought up Transformers because it's one of the dumbest movies in the world that can be easily picked apart but because it has entertaining action, I have no problem ignoring all of its problems. I went into this movie not giving a damn about Superman but being a fan of Zack Snyder's direction and this failed at delivering that. If the movie wanted to be dumb action, that's great but it wasn't good at that, nor was it good enough at delivering the melodrama it so desperately wanted to portray.

I am pretty sure it didn't fail at Zack Snyder directing it....since he did indeed direct it.
