Man of Steel exceeded my expectations and I loved it. The acting was pretty damn good (i.e Kevin Costner). My only complaint is that Metropolis got annihilated and appeared to have hundreds of people die but didn't seem like a big deal. So happy I changed my mind about seeing it.

Me and my son just got back from seeing this for Fathers Day..this movie was absolutely amazing..I like how they showed every character in the comics that were in Clark's life was in it.
Some even different race reversals...I love this film hands down the best Superman movie ever!!! Acting was superb, I love the twist in story and trying to make some aspects fit current life...
Just amazing, enough said..Comment

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
Seriously, just saw this today and I'm a thoroughly Marvel over DC guy from the get go. Batman is about the only one who has that "Marvel" feel to him over any other DC character. I agree with others who struggle with liking Superman because he is that invincible. However, from the standpoint of just a flat out good vs. evil movie storyline, I'm good with this installment and marveled (pun slightly intended) at the CGI and f/x as well as the musical score.
The added bonus of seeing that there will be a sequel to 300 had me pumped.... already vowed to stay away from any more of those trailers/footage.Comment

I've always liked DC characters way more then Marvel now that I think of it. Part of it probably is I just never heard of their characters when growing up besides Spider-Man and X-men until they started their movies as of late. For instance, I never heard of Iron Man until the first movie they made.Last edited by Chrisksaint; 06-17-2013, 02:12 AM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

I think Superman and Batman are both great, but Marvel has a much deeper stable of fantastic characters to draw from.Comment

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
SpoilerWas anyone else thinking how is Metropolis going to recover from all this property damage? Maybe in the sequel Superman can squeeze and heat vision several truck loads of coal into a bunch of diamonds to help the city out. It would be easier than repairing the mess.
I thought the Jonathan and Clark scenes were great, sometimes heartbreaking. The Jor-El "consciousness" was pretty good too, especially toward the end.
I liked the "liquid graphite" Kryptonian interface. It looked advanced and intuitive. It was neat when "Jor-El 2" showed the history of Krypton to Clark and that interface presented itself again.
It was a good movie. I would have liked to see the battle scenes condensed but its hard to put the reins on when you're dealing with super powered beings in a congested city.
I had no problem with them going in a different direction. I can't wait for the sequel.

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
Seriously, aren't we supposed to use spoiler tags in movie threads? People have been quite liberal with spoilers in this thread after it opened, which isn't usually the case in other movie threads.
^
Don't give them ideas. The last thing we need is a Lex Luthor who has a grudge with Superman because he floods the diamond market with Superman diamonds. Or it could be the greatest thing ever.....Comment

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
Seen it last night and thought it was really good.
SpoilerIt threw me off a little how the first half of the movie was mostly a series of flashbacks. I feel like the editing was a little jumpy in some spots. That being said, the flashback moments themselves were good, especially the one early on when Clark has to deal with his sense of hearing and Martha helps him hone it in.
Speaking of her, I thought Diane Lane was one of the strong points among the cast, which was pretty strong throughout. Henry Cavill more than held his own both as Clark and Superman. Amy Adams I'm still not 100% sold on as Lois, which could be because I thought Smallville had it so right, but I don't think she was terrible by any means. Plus, she looked pretty good so that helps lol. Both of Clark's fathers were good, but I feel like Jonathan Kent could have used another scene or two. Also, for whatever reason, his death scene didn't have much of an impact on me. And finally, Zod was a really well done and fleshed out villain. He wasn't just a typical run-of-the-mill villain and was a very strong starting point for this reboot, especially considering Superman doesn't have the greatest collection of enemies.
After seeing all of these mixed reviews I wasn't sure what to expect going in, but now having seen it and going back and reading some of these reviews, it doesn't even really add up to me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course, but complaints about the fight scenes (which I thought were great), the movie being "too over the top" (what?), or even going the over-analyzing route in regards to things like how Clark could have suddenly gotten the job at the Daily Planet or assuming Superman killed thousands of people because him and Zod were tearing through buildings seem to be reaching to me. Did we not see people running for their lives much earlier than those scenes? Who's to say there even were people in those buildings? Also, let's say there was. There's a scene where Faora says something along the lines of "You will kill thousands just to save a few innocent lives". I think we also have to factor in that this isn't a continuation of the Superman character like we seen in Returns. This is Superman just starting out, so I'm assuming he's bound to make some mistakes, no?
The funny thing about all of the criticisms I'm reading is that in my head, I find myself jumping to defend the movie and this is from someone who doesn't even like Superman and thinks this is still a step below The Dark Knight trilogy.
Anyways, I'm interested to see where they go with the sequel, which by the sounds of it is going to be coming sooner rather than later. I absolutely loved the ending and honestly I think it helped strengthen my opinion of the movie and bumped it up from "Good" to "Pretty damn good".
I definitely recommend seeing it, especially if you're someone who's not going to nitpick at every little aspect of a movie to find it's flaws. However, I don't recommend seeing it in 3D, which I did (the first time I've seen a 3D movie). It hardly added anything and the glasses got to be annoying to wear at times.Last edited by BlueNGold; 06-17-2013, 10:52 AM.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: Superman Man Of Steel
Saw this Saturday afternoon. Not gonna write a long review or anything. Just let it be known that I absolutely LOVED it and can't wait to see it again. It exceeded my expectations, which I didn't think was possible, as this was my most anticipated movie of all time.
A Superman for a new generation has been born on the big screen, and I for one can't wait for more.Comment
