Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I would wait for one of the ratings sites to review them so you can compare apples to apples and not just looks.
If they are rated highly though or close, then go for it. You just need to get a long warranty, but at the price you may be able to buy 3 or more before you reach the price for the other lines.
TCL has done it, so another brand could do it.

Not quite. They still have sub par processing and horrible motion handling. Not sure how they can call their 6 series premium when it doesn't even have a native 120 hz panel.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Ended up buying a 65" TCL Roku TV instead of a projector a few months back.
It's not as nice as my gaming monitor, but for a 65" TV on a budget it looks great to me. I'll hang a projector down the road like I initially planned, but It's just not in the budget to get the one I want right now. Saving some money on a TV allowed us to buy a nicer leather sectional with charging ports, electric reclining, etc.
I try to look at TVs like this: I grew up with a 13" Orion TV and some rabbit ears. I'll probably always be behind on TV tech just because something new and better is always coming out. What we have now in my house for my family is nicer than anything I ever had growing up for sure (relative to the time period of course) so I'm happy with it.Last edited by AUChase; 08-14-2019, 11:23 AM.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I purchased an LG B7 OLED back in 2017 and got the three year extended warranty.
When I first bought it, I noticed some vertical banding and a bit of yellow tinting on the left side of the screen. As the year went on, it started getting worse. So I called LG and put in a claim. I never acted on it because life got in the way (newborn baby, work, etc).
Fast forward to two months ago. The tv now in its extended warranty stage, and me with a bit more time on my hands, I decide to try and get this problem fixed. Long story short, the store I bought it from picked it up and had the panel on the tv replaced. I got it back a couple of weeks ago, and while the banding was a bit better, the tinting on the left side of the screen was 200% worse. Instead of just yellow, I’ve got a combination of red and yellow.
So I furiously call the store back, only for them to tell me there is nothing they can do at this point. That my best bet would be to contact the warranty company on my own. So I did. And now I’m in a battle with them. They’re saying that vertical banding and tinting on an LG OLED is not considered a defect. Then what the hell is it!? I’ve seen people from the OS forum as well as other tv forums get a total replacement for less than what I have going on.
Does anyone have any recommendations on how I could win my case? What may have worked for you? We’ve been going back and forth by email, and the guy at the warranty company has basically told me to call LG myself because he’s closing my case.
Any help would be appreciated as I’m at a loss. I thought the whole point of purchasing an extended warranty was to have someone, AKA a warranty company, fight to protect your investment.
The warranty company is The Walker Group. In Canada, I believe.PS4 | jamiedallaireComment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Technically pretty much all TV's suffer from banding. So not necessarily wrong.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
So, you're telling me this should be a normal viewing experience on a $3,000+ television? Come on, man.PS4 | jamiedallaireComment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
? I did buy protection.
The whole point of my post was to say that my extended warranty won’t cover this because they’re saying banding and tinting isn’t a defect.
I came to share my story here to see if anyone had similar problems with their warranty company, and how they may have dealt with it.PS4 | jamiedallaireComment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Wow. Not normal on a TCL or a Hisense or a Best buy house TV. Why I would never spend a ton of money on a slightly superior television. Panel roulette.Comment
