Though Edge-Lit displays are thinner, most will give you uniformity problems. "Clouding" being the biggest culprit. This is evident when watching a content that offers black bars either on the TOP & BOTTOM of the screen or on the SIDES.

As for Blooming on Back-Lit LED displays. Though evident, as I said IMHO it doesn't take away from the PQ it offers. Again I've owned a Back-Lit LED LCD for over 1 year & the Blooming I see sometimes doesn't take away from PQ..

Here's my model.. Which is BackLit with "Local Dimming" My TV has 96 dimmable zones

I like the bezel on that set!

I assume the screen is gloss and not matte?

Yeah, it's Glossy. (Ultra Clear Panel) Really brings out the picture & does a good job with glare.

That is my next purchase.....is getting a nice set of speakers. I have Sony satellites and sub woofer which are 8-9 years old. I am considering buying new ones sometime this spring to replace these.

Thanks Joe for answering my questions.

I bought my HT system about 8-9 years ago, and ever since then could never look back. Since then, I've gone through 3 receivers......on my third one right now. I sold the first one I had a Sony since I needed an HDMI switching receiver. Bought an Onkyo then, which had some handshaking and overheating issues. Ditched that a year ago to get the Denon I have now. The entire time, I have kept the same original Sony speaker set. LOL! Those are in need of an upgrade, especially my center channel the most.

Yeah speakers can last a long time......I myself need to upgrade.....Had mines for a good 11 years now. I have always been a home theatre head. I remember hooking up my NES to my stereo system back in the 80s, I had 4 floor model speakers hooked up to it LOL. Haven't played a video game system through tv speakers only since then.

The moment you change the speakers. The sound is going to drastically change. Night and day difference. I use to have some regular home theater in a box and the moment I upgraded I noticed how horrible they sounded compared to my new setup. Audio heaven lol.

You can get great speakers for a fraction of the price of a boss setup, and they destroy boss sound as well.

Well, I sold my 12 year old 53" Sony Trinitron 4:3 standard def tv last night. All for a measly $100. It's going to a good home, but I'll miss that beast of a tv. Towards the end, it was almost unwatchable for sports, but I still remember the day we got it. I thought it was the most amazing tv (cost around $1700). And then of course, my son grew up watching Blues Clues, Cailou, Clifford, and Curious George on it. So, it's a little bittersweet. But, now I get to look forward to my new purchase.

I appreciate your guys opinions on the edge lit vs backlit, as well as the Vizio tv I've been eying. So, I have another question now.

What's your thought on wall mounting? The wife really wants to mount the tv on the wall, however I'm apprehensive as it then limits us if we ever want to move it, along with making it difficult to fiddle with the cabling. Either way, it seems to be around the same amount of money if I hang it or not. I'd still need a cabinet to ether sit it on or lay the receiver, blu-ray player, etc. on.

I can't wait, this is my next project. I've seen a set of Polk Audio satellites, center channel and subwoofer for about $400. Sometimes they have been on sale for $300. Not sure yet, going to look around to see what I can get for my money. I hear that Boston Acoustics are also good too.

If you have small kids sportsdan, go for the wall mounting. Several years back, my oldest son when he was 3 years old through a toy car at the Olevia 32" LCD which we had on a stand. Some guys might remember this, but it was the TV I stood outside of Circuit City for 6-7 hours on Black Friday when LCD's were ultra expensive. Half of the screen worked where you had a picture and the second half all of the liquid crystals were damaged having a color bleeding affect look to them.
