Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

I have a question about OLED blacks, though. See if this makes sense.

As I understand, OLED has the ability to shut off pixels at any time, rendering it "completely black" in those places.

However, what is the minimum luminance (cdm) of pixels when they are turned on? So basically like... is there a stark difference between the lowest lit blacks and the shut off blacks? Are the lowest lit blacks as low as plasma had achieved?

      Thanks.

The Samsung F8500 is considered the brightest plasma ever and it barely reaches 200 nits. Most of the OLEDs nowadays go up 800 nits of brightness. As a owner of multiple plasmas I really enjoyed them at the time, but they are no match for OLED. It beats them in every single PQ category. Contrast? Oled kills it, Blacks? Oled wins, colors? Oled wins again and overall brightness it’s not even close. As far as how low do the blacks get when turned on nits black levels of >0.0005. Like you, I loved the picture on my plasmas and never been a fan of LCD/LED, but OLED takes the cake lol.

This turned out pretty good all things considering in the end I was impressed with LG's customer service. A local company called me first thing Monday and set up a appointment. I texted him the pics of what was was wrong. It said it looked like the panel (screen) as it was a unusual problem he had never seen.

The day before all of a sudden the lines went away even then it blinked on and off by itself one time so I knew something was still off. I didn't tell the tech people and I crossed my fingers it wouldn't be working right when they came as I assumed it would need to not be to get fixed. When he got there the lines wasn't on it so he could only replace something in the inside. Then luckily when he turned it back on the lines showed back up so he was able to call LG and get me a new screen.

So whatever the problem was it was the screen and not any of the motherboard stuff.

Is it just me or did we not really get any TV Super Bowl sales this year? Normally around superbowl I think you get sales close to like Black Friday level. This year I didn't really see anything.

Really struggling to pull trigger. I currently have 2 65" tv for main rooms. A ks8000 and a c8. With a 55 sony in the bedroom.

I had a offer for a 77 cx of $2899 all in from greentoe that expires in a day. I'm not sure if it's enough of an update for me for my ps5 and don't know if I really need a 65 inch in my bedroom. I already have a k950 surround soundbar in there?

Is the cx offer too good to pass or should I wait?

Do you think the 77 cx is a big enough upgrade to justify expense? It's where I struggle. It's not a necessity, I don't know if it moves the needle enough for me. There is about 9 feet between couch and TV. I just put In a new q950t when I bought a ps5 to pass hdr through.

And yet if you keep having the next best thing, you'll have everything (except a surplus of cash).

Gotta pick your battles and decide when you feel the time is right. I haven't yet felt the time has been right for myself and my eight-year-old plasma to part ways yet. For me, it's like if they stopped making manual transmission automobiles: sure, the new cars may be better in every way, except if they ain't stick, they ain't ****. I'd rather ride out my last manual as long as I possibly can, for the added benefit/enjoyment I get out of it and knowing I won't be able to again with any new models (that would be a sad day if this really happened).

I'm waiting for non-plasma/non-projector technology to get motion right for movies, for one. That, or I'm waiting till I have a place where I can dedicate a room to a home theater and get a projector. Also waiting to see on what Samsung does with their emissive quantum dot technology. Also also waiting to see if I can cash in on the stock market sooner rather than later.

Big Facts! I have my 55" LG CX and I'm going to be good for a long while. I'm not upgrading for a very long time. Especially since this TV is truly the best TV out there for gaming.

For me, wall space dictates size. Always go bigger if you can. You'll hit the size limit at some point due to your wall space. You will always wonder if you should have gone bigger if you see that you still have room.

I have a 65 ks8000 in my man cave downstairs only because I can't fit anything bigger.

Do we know when 2021 tvs are going to start to come out? I am wondering once like LG C1 comes out if the LG CX will go down in price even more. Also interesting that Samsung QN90A got a 8.6 on Rittings.com yet very mixed reviews like ever where.
