"Breaking in" nowadays just means lowering the contrast (50 or so) and making sure your screen is completely filled by the picture. And not leaving static images in place for long periods of time. Some people run color slides to speed up the break in period.

Some would argue that you don't even need to break in plasmas now.
Even though im erroring on the side of caution i think yoir right on.
Yesterday my daughter came home and used my tv (yeah i said my tv lol) and watched MTV from 3:30 until i came in around 5 ish. I freaked because of the black bars and MTV logo. Sure enough i switch channels and you could see the bars and logo BUT not even doing the washing thing this time and just watching other channels, the images went away pretty quickly.

Still going to run the slides at night for a few days and leave contrast low to be safe lol

This evening i did set the tv to some recommended settings just to see the quality and wow! Really does look great.

I wouldn't worry about that image retention. You would have to leave that set on for days to get burn-in. Just keep running those slides overnight till you hit about 150 hours and you should be good. Like I said over PM, its taken me like almost a month to quit worrying about IR and burn-in. Now I don't worry much about it anymore. Once you get over the fear of IR, you will love your set even more.

Cool thing is I'll have my 3D glasses around the same time I get the 100-150 hours in

You will always be conscious of what not to do, but you get a better feeling once you have gamed on this set for sometime.

            so what does this mean?

I have my set to orbiter all the time, it shifts the screen to no IR is left over, your saying I should take it off, I have had it on since day one and never took it off.

No, not the pixel/orbital shifter. I'm talking about the scrolling bar or white wash which has a white bar scroll across the screen to reshape the pixels/phosphorus to remove any IR. These are two totally different features.

Yep. The pixel shift/orbiter isn't a problem. The white wash should only be used when there is IR. It's not good for the phosphers to have it run a lot.

Pixel shift is actually disabled in Movie Mode on my TV. Kind of sucks, but since I haven't had any IR, I'm not too worried. If I didn't get it when it was paused on COD for 45min, I doubt I'll get it with anything else.

I pulled the trigger! Thanks for the recommendations.

So... I have a PS3 and 360. Is it possible to use the ps3 as my 3-D player or do I have to buy a Panasonic 3-D player?

Congrats. You should be able to use your PS3 I believe. I might need clarification here, but you might also need a HDMI 1.4 (high speed HDMI) cable for 3D vs. using HDMI 1.3 and below. You can find these cheap at monoprice.com anyways so its not bad.

I have the pixel shifter turned on to 1 minute, not really sure if it really helps or not. I have it on hoping that it does something.

I've used the scrolling bar just a handful of times. There was one time a few weeks back where I forgot the BD player on for 30 minutes and it left some IR from the menu screen. I used the scrolling bar/wash for 15 minutes + watched some TV afterward and it went away. Like Game said earlier in this thread, you have to really abuse these newer plasma's to get burn-in unless there is a defect with the set.

Whenever I close off the garage downstairs into a family room/mancave, I hope to go the 58-60" route. With the 2011 plasma's the sizes have changed by going up an inch on some which I think their trying to match LCD's while keeping the 50". LCD ditched the 50" so they can have this huge dollar gap between 46/47" to 55". I find that rather ridiculous, but these guys are in it for making $$$$$.

Monoprice doesn't even separate the two anymore with that label. I'm almost not even sure it matters. Look at this thread from another forum:

Main reason was it was 999.99 this week and came with the 3D started kit. The 3D kit was on back order but I'll have in a couple weeks.

Also had 100.00 in BB gift cards so I went ahead and got the 2 year extended warranty. All came from bonus money for this year.

Hooked it up last night. Turned down contrast, made sure everything was full screen for now, found the game mode settings etc...
                            Picture is AMAZING!
Has burn in protection and the "Sweep" thingy that wipes the screen etc..
Hooked it up to network and right away it was able to see music, Videos and pictures on all PC's and Laptops.

I'll probably go out this week and get a pair of the 3D glasses to check it out also. I need 4 total anyways.

I'm still nervous about Plasma but once I get through a week or so I'll be less nervous.
One thing I found was when trying to hook the audio out to surround receiver I could not find it...then realized it had no component audio out(that I could find anyways) but then noticed it had optical out. Hooked it up and I'm good to go.
Hey Sky, congrats on the new TV. Samsungs have beautiful PQ, but my main concern is input lag which they suffer greatly. I know you love baseball games, and I just sold my samsung '46 lcd because input lag was horrible and affected gameplay especially for precise timing games ie MLB the show etc. Have you tested to see how much input lag your set has? That's why I decided to go with Panasonic since they are known to have virtually almost no lag(15ms), and are great for gaming. I ordered the Panasonic 50gt25 a few days ago. I waiting for it to arrive.
NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.

I posted this earlier, but I tested my PNC63C8000 with The Show. I used to have a Samsung DLP that I never saw any input lag on....however, the C8000 definitely had input lag when tested. I put it in Game Mode and the input lag was gone.

I also noticed on some blu-rays through my PS3, there were lip sync issues. However, once I put the PS3 into Game Mode, the lip sync issues on those same blu-rays disappeared. I use the Samsung 3D blu-ray player now for all blu-rays, but it goes to show that Game Mode really works well on these Samsungs.

Art, I have the Panny G20. The PS3 is hooked up to the receiver to the TV, so I am not using game mode at all. I do not notice input lag at all and I have not tried Game mode. I had a Samsung 46" LCD before this set and the input lag was bad. I noticed the difference immediately when going to the plasma.
