Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Wild, this is what I posted several pages back........just lower the brightness a little bit. If you plan on running the slides, send me a PM because you will have to use different settings which are completely different from these.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I'm watching and running the slides on standard picture settings with both brightness and contrast at 48. My question to you is, do you think it's safe to run the slides for 6-8 hours at a time? I'm running the slides for about 3 hours at a time since I don't want to over work my tv..Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I just realized I won't be able to post my settings tonight...my wife and I are helping out my sister and watching my niece. Mine are very close to settings I found on Home Theater Magazine with a few tweaks.
EX: I didn't use Warm 2 because it had too yellow of a tint for my taste. It made the ice in hockey look too yellow so I used Warm 1. I also turned down cell light to 18...as this is my first Plasma, I was shocked to see the cell light so high, but I guess that's the nature of a plasma? There were a few other tweaks, but nothing major.
Here are the Home Theater settings:

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Question: Is it correct to watch regular HDTV in the "Screen Fit" aspect ratio rather than the 16:9 ratio? I noticed I'll see another few inches on each side/top/bottom when in Screen Fit mode (it seems 16:9 is slightly zoomed in). The only issue I've seen is that on some commercials it looks like Screen Fit has a bit of flickering at the top.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I hit the 150 mark on the scrolling colors etc...
Hopefully I'll have some glasses this weekend to try the 3D. I did play some games and they seemed to play good. Baseball and GOW.Joshua:

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I couldn't resist playing games for 4 hours. I downloaded Motorstorm: Pacific Rim, 3D space something, God of War 3, and Warhawk and I played MLB:11.
I was blown away by everything I saw 2D or 3D it was amazing. I had zero problems and zero image retention. I was careful not to pause or to play with a frozen HUD. It's not often that something outperforms your expectations and that's what happened for me.
3D motorstorm was supposed to be bad and I thought it was great. I can't wait to see more games with 3D content. Motorstorm 3 is now a day 1 purchase.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I actually had the TV on for days straight while running the slides. I'd get home at 6-7pm and would start watching regular TV and then when I went to bed, I'd put the slides back on (I connected a USB thumbdrive with the slides so I only had to switch inputs). Never bothered turning the TV off as I didn't see the point.
With all that said, I heard running break-in slides is not necessary. However, I have yet to see even the slightest bit of IR and I've left the TV on a static menu image for a good 45min (accident..not intentional!). So, while it might not be necessary, I'd recommend it. Can't hurt right?

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I watch it with "Screen Fit" (my TV calls it "Just Scan"). You're probably noticing that when you are watching a 1080i broadcast, as that's the only time that option is available anyway. Yeah, I leave it on there. You'll notice that with video games and movies, you will want it on this as well. If you have The Show, you'll also see why you get black borders with your pictures, because technically there is more image to see (thus you have to stretch out the image in the game's options).Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
On my Samsung I put screen fit only for blu rays and gaming.
For TV I put it at 16:9 which is the aspect ration for regular hdtv channel watching.
If you put it at screen fit then you might get the wiggly lines on the top
Not sure about 720P since I watch all channels on 1080iComment

Have the settings I posted working out ok for you? Wait till you watch some Blu-ray's on this set, your jaw will drop. My next set will most likely be 58" as long as I get the garage converted into a second family room in the future.
I don't have my PS3 on game mode, been using THX and have been happy with it. Hopefully you will enjoy your set more as the time passes, the G series is no slouch. If I had the money, I'd be all over the VT as that thing looks amazing. I saw an open box VT 54" @ BBY for $1999, but no way I would spend an extra $1K for 4". Like mjb, at that point I would be looking at the Samsung C or D series in the same class as Panny is costly with the VT. I can care less for 3D and the problem is that I wear glasses so putting another pair over my regular glasses just sucks.Comment
