Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Let me say this....u are playing russian roulette with your Plasma TV with gaming. Now, Supposedly.....Samsung is WORSE in-regards to image burning with Plasma. Panasonic is maybe the best, as the IR (image-retention) supposedly goes away most of the time. I would go with a Panasonic. Go to the AVS forum to find the best model.
I was talked into buying a plasma by the guys on this thread and it's been one of the best purchases I can remember making. I game 2-3 hours a night once the wife is asleep and I have never had any image retention after the first 150 hours. I had a little bit with the Madden ticker in the begining but it lasted 2-3 minutes.
For the first time my games look as good as the screenshots you see in magazines. I have had zero problems with the TV and I would recommend it to anyone. I went with the 42 panni 3D tv for $749. It was a steal at that price.Comment

Plasma colors and black levels for gaming and movies on a samsung plasma is incredible.
Use the pixel shifter and no IR will happen. Simple as thatComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
LOL...i guess the people who have the problem are MAKING IT UP....lol. Go to the plasma section of the AVS forum. Some will say the IR goes away and some will say it never fully goes away. Personally, I wouldn't take the chance. To each, their own. Don't say you weren't warned.....Comment

AVS is also a decent place to gain knowledge, but there are a lot of "display supporters" who will trash another display because they have their favorite (ie: LED vs Plasma) - there could be some of that going on. Some of it might be true as well, but I can only go on my own experience and that of friends who have plasma's.
In my personal experience, I have had zero IR or Burn-In on my plasma (Samsung PN63C8000). I did run the break in slides while I was at work and overnight and watched regular TV programming while at home with low contrast/brightness for the first two weeks of the TV. I once left a video game paused for 30-45 minutes because I let my dog out and wound up talking to my neighbor - completely forgot about the TV. I came in and was positive I'd see some IR, but nothing. IR and/or burn-in isn't even a concern for me anymore.Comment

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I put the black noir settings on my tv and wow this thing looks great. Just a gorgeous picture.
Do I need to use game mode on it and just tweak the settings? I like the black noir because it does not fatigue my eyes, but I don't want input lag.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
So for instance, I have my television set to pixel-shift every two minutes, and it will go a total of four pixels in both the horizontal and vertical directions from center. I think what this actually means, really, is that it has a shifting range of 64 pixels (8x8), but I'm not sure.
This helps prevent burn-in and IR, since images, especially static logos, are never technically in the same place for any longer than two minutes at a time.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I mostly use Game Mode because I want my settings for games to look different than my settings for movies. It's slightly brighter, more vivid, and cooler in overall tone. Movies are warmer, pay more attention to shadow detail, and have different settings for motion. Game Mode is good because you can have different settings for each, plus you can have less input lag should you desire.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
To me (and to alot of others I would assume) is that the superior picture of a plasma (and with a good LED that is properly calibrated, it is barely noticeable these days) is not worth the extra care and nuturing required for a plasma in the break in period as well as using more power and the glare screens (which was my biggest turnoff with the plasma I had, unfortunately all my main floor rooms have those pesky windows.)
It's not a personal insult to plasma owners, I'm not sure why people seem to get personally offended when burn in is mentioned. It's a fact of life with these TVs that if you treat it like you do with a LED right out of the box there's a good chance you might have problems later on. LCD\LED owners don' get personally offended when plasma owners always mention they have the better pictue quality. They accept that but also realize theirs are maintenence free which is just as attractive to them especially when you have kids and relatives who could care less about nurturing a plasma when they want to watch the same channels all day long. If I buy a TV I should reserve the right to watch what I want when I want and for how long I want without worrying about having to run a pixel shifter or whatever the manufacturer puts in there for you to maintain.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Treating it horribly by not babysitting it? The main point of contention with people who don't want plasmas is they have to do any care and maintenance. It's a TV not a car. There's enough things in life that have to be maintained, a TV shouldn't have to be one of them.

I'm not offended if someone doesn't want a plasma but with so many people coming into this thread looking for advice, they shouldn't be worrying about things that are not real issues.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters.
