How do you like it so far for those things?

Wifi just is your internal network...so it's possible to just communicate with the device without hitting the cable modem. It's like when you stream a video off your PC through Plex or something, that's not using data

          Hopefully that's the case.

Though a weird problem I've run in to. Connected phone through chromecast during initial startup which all works fine, screen mirroring and casting through apps as well. But other devices I don't have as much success.

One will just show a black screen when I try doing screen mirroring(though if I do app casting, it works fine). And my tablet works fine with app casting, but I don't even have the option to do screen mirroring(as seen in the attached pic). On the left menu, it's supposed to say "cast screen/audio", but that's not even an option. Any idea what's up with that?

Could be that those thinking it is too dim watch TV in "torch" mode so anything else would seem dim in comparison.

Oh ok good to know. Yea I know some people who say they watch their TVs with the backlight all the way up. I can’t watch tv on torch mode. It doesn’t even look good and bothers my eyes.

I actually think it looks better like that. Though after what it did to my TV, I'm staying away from it.

The reason you get differing opinions on how it looks is because not everyone is seeing the screen image the same.

What looks good to one set of eyes may not look as nice to another.

Another reason is because of lighting in the room. A brighter room would require a brighter picture setting, but at night with the lights off no one should be with the backlight all the way up. I guess you can get used to it but too bright bothers most people including myself.

On the 2016 LGs, there’s definitely an issue with HDR in Game mode. I even contacted Rtings about it. A guy there tested it for me and agreed it was too dim. The other HDR modes look fine, but then you have greater lag.

Have had my Vizio M-50 for a couple of days now and this TV is awesome. 4K content looks great and even the picture quality on the PS4 Slim has improved with the TV. Having the Chromecast built in is great as well.

Again, if game mode weren't too dim then I would have bought a second one for gaming. Instead, I bought the Sony. The Sony is really, really good but the LG picture is in another league.
I've spent the past week going back and forth between the LG and the Sony. I'm more convinced than ever that the LG wins for tv/movie watching and the Sony for gaming.

After the recent firmware update, the LG isn't as dim as it once was. Nonetheless, the advantage the Sony has in picture quality over the LG when both are in game mode is huge. The Sony just "pops" with layers of color that I don't remember seeing before. It has that "wow" factor.

The LG, because of its ability to do perfect black, is amazing for movie watching--especially films with dark scenes. Again, it is unlike anything I have ever seen.

So--the LG is for our family room and the Sony for our gaming room. I like the Sony so much now that I am toying with going ahead and getting the 65 inch (vs. the 55 inch).

                        Thanks!

Any websites you all recommend looking at for deals on the Sony? Just trying to find sales before I pull the trigger.

                            The 65 inch just dropped $500 and is now $1995. 55 inch dropped $200 @ $1495.

Have the Sony x900E 55 inch set. Really struggling to get a decent picture on cable broadcasts. I know that is probably more due to the crappy signals the stations send...but man..the tv looks like it is always in torch mode even when I pull down contrast and color into the 70's. Probably no real way to combat this. I've tried rtings settings and a few from youtube...just can't get a good fit.

Some stations are so dark it is almost impossible to see any detail. Usually the typical poor stations like TBS, Sundance, WE, etc. Normal broadcast stations do look better but still can't find a solid setting.

I know these sets weren't really made for watching HD feeds from cable feeds. I guess the better the set, the worse the picture for this type of viewing!
