Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Which model is that? I never seen a native 120hz panel from TCLComment

That's what I got...said 120Hz CMI, so maybe not native I don't know. I fully accept that I don't have the budget for anything crazy, so it's still good for me, but maybe it upscales or something for the refresh rate, I don't know.
Either way it was the best I could do for my money at the time, given that I wanted a 55" TV
*edit* yeah, it's "fake" 120hz...something I'll keep in mind next tv for sure. Eventually my son's room will need one so I can play the upgrade game and the future base level will be better I'd imagine.Last edited by mgoblue; 12-20-2018, 12:28 PM.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Again this is just my opinion, I have no issues watching sports and gaming has been a Joy on both of my TCL sets. 60hrz is just fine with me as again I see no issues at all.N.Y Mets

I have the same set in my Living room hooked up to my X and its still a great TV, and the new TCL 6 series I bought last week in my bedroom for my PRO.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I've found out that as a rule of thumb, if the TV is advertised as something like "True Motion 120 or Motion Rate 120" it means its native 60hrz. Same if it says "Motion rate 240" it means its a 120 hrz panel.
And that Vizio P set I wanted was $100 off at Best Buy the other day. Damming, I hate waiting.Last edited by PVarck31; 12-20-2018, 07:01 PM.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Exactly! I get the tech limitations, but for my money at the time I couldn't afford better, or didn't want to spend more. Ideally I'd have a 10,000 dollar magic tv lolNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
So it seems the 2018 LG OLED have a fatal flaw that looks to be hardware base and not something fixable via fw
Near black in scenes causes macro blocking to flash and it looks bad. I tested my set that I just got replaced after the burn in from BB and it does have the issue
55 65 77 inches all tested from AVS and Reddit members as well as the non Alpha 9 chip b8 and all have the issue
This is not an issue with 2017 models
D-Nice is a pro calibrator and he claims the Sony OLED from this year had the same issue which is a LG panel that Sony releases with their own software
Most of the issues are from LG side though
LG has yet to comment, you can youtube the issue and read about it
Vincent Teoh from UHDTV has a test pattern on Twitter showing the issue and he claims he reached out to LG about it
Very upsetting
Below is a summary of the tons of posts about it. Some say they do not see it but many are seeing it
It has been observed on 55", 65", and 77" panels.
A number of people reported not seeing it on their panels.
A credible authority here has a 65C8 that does not display the macroblocking. He has seen it on other panels (a 77" I think).
Vincent has seen it.
A Philips OLED owner with an LGD panel reported it.
An LG owner with the problem had the power supply and main board replaced and that did not fix it.
In the opinion of a credible authority here, the problem results from something done in the LGD factory, and cannot be fixed by a firmware update.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Its an LG issue and LG makes Sony's panels
The calibrator had the 9 from this year and claims it had the issue and returned it
But most of the complains i am seeing are from LG models for this yearComment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I have the 900 f 65 inch and use with PS4 pro. It looks amazing. Saw the tcl at target when I was in the US this weekend and it also looked good and like a third of the price.
