Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
They have the patents for them or agreements to manufacture for the patent owners.
Most brands in the US will use them. Samsung is still trying to do their own thing.
Theoretically they will be cheaper and easier to make, but that hasn't happened yet.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Are you going to be watching sports? If so, get the Sony, much better motion processing.

The TCl much cheaper, better for gaming and has excellent low input lagComment

Disagree....
Per rtings (which so many of the people here love)....
The Sony X900F is better than the TCL R617. The Sony X900F displays deeper blacks in a dark room due to better local dimming, and this is great if you watch movies. The Sony X900F can handle reflections better and has a faster response time that leaves only a small blur trail. It also has better gray uniformity for an image without clouding or shadows. On the other hand, the TCL R617 has a lower input lag which is great if you play video games.

Yea you get a better tv but for that price difference it is not.
Let's look at the numbers
Native Contrast
5089 : 1 Sony

Once again the TCL for 700 less has better brightness which gives you a more engaging HDR picture for both movies and games.
Input Lag
If you play a game at 1080p 60hz it will have 40ms of input lag on the Sony tv and just 17ms on the TCL
If you do 4k 60hz The sony line does 24ms and the TCL 19
Winner is the TCL for 700 less
Not to mention the Roku OS on the TCL blows away the Android one on the Sony side
The sony is a better tv due to its better color spectrum and grey uniformity as well as being a 120hz panel but those factors should not be worth 700 alone. Not to me at least.
If am spending 1600 on the Sony I rather get the 8FN from Samsung at 55 inches which is superior and fantastic for gamingComment

Nobody said the Sony was not a better tv. His question was if it was 700 dollars better than the TCL and in my opinion it is not. Not even close

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Form all my research, the TCL 6 is a great value but for $200 more I think the Vizio P is better. Full array and 120hz. What really sucks though is I had to sit here and watch Best Buy have it for $100 off for a week and couldn't buy it. The TCL was also $100 off.
But I would never knock someone for wanting to save that $200. Especially if you are mostly using the TCL for gaming. But if you watch a lot of sports it would be the better value to have that 120hz panel.
I'm not counting the Sony in this btw.
Unless someone can tell me the Q6FN is better than the Vizio P. (Scott)Last edited by PVarck31; 12-27-2018, 04:35 AM.Comment

The Q6FN is superior in every way except it is edge lit compared to FALD
That is why the TCL is the better choice if you want great sdr and hdr performance in gaming and movies. Sports is what would be better on the VIZIO and Q6FN and I would go with the Samsung for the superior upscaling of lower rez contentComment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
The Vizio is a good tv but not worth the 200 upgrade because if you plan to game that tv has higher input lag for 4k hdr than 4k sdr. And only one HDMI input allows low input lag of 15ms without hdr. That makes it a NO and their OS is laggy and terrible

I know the Samsung will probably have better motion handling as will with the Freesync.
I'd say overall the most important things for me are sports and gaming and I'd say those are 50/50. I would love movies to look great as well, but that is less important to me.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Depending on the TV, it definitely could be normal. For the x900f it does have some darkness at the corners, but it shouldn't be noticeable when watching TV, only when you are looking at a static uniform image.
Here is the gray uniformity test for that tv.
