So Denon 9.2, SVS sub, and speakers are still a question mark. The first two get me $2K in, so I'd love to be under $5K all in for sound at most since I'm planning on shelling out for the new Sony 85". Welcome any recommendations on the right speakers if not Klipsch.

Bonus round question. I need a center speaker that doesn't stick out too much with a flush mounted TV. Any recommendations from the above brands, and should I go in-wall or mounted? And do you throw Definitive Technology in the same group?

Yeah, I’d throw Definitive Technology in there too. KEF makes a really nice on wall center.

I would go in wall depending on what is on the other side of the wall. My 3 front speakers are not in wall but I may do that eventually. I have a tv on each side of the shared wall but didn't want any reverb going into the other room.

Thank you guys for the great advice. That KEF line is exactly what I'm looking for, so I think I settled on 7.1.2 setup.

Will this receiver get the job done, or should I pay more for the 11 channel in case I want to add more speakers down the road?

Also, is the 105 Watt / Channel allotment really good? I've seen some up to 150. Just not really sure what that means in relation to the speakers I'm getting.

For the sub, I'm going with SVS: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/svs-12-...?skuId=6394990

I think 1 will likely be more than enough, but I'm thinking about wiring for an additional one down the road. If 2 is really bliss, I'd probably go with 2 of the $499 model.

In addition to the center you recommended, I'm going with the matching side speakers up front, and then slightly smaller ones for the side and back (same KEF T-Series line).

            Front: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/kef-t-s...?skuId=2887536

            Side & Rear: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/kef-t-s...?skuId=2887645

And then for in ceiling, I'm thinking about 2 of these over the couch: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/kef-ci-...?skuId=6197967

Will this give me the Dolby Atmos effect I'm looking for? Feel free to critique any of the above; nothing purchased, yet!

Also, any recommendations for speaker wire? I'm more well versed on video cables (HDMI 2.1 across the board) and don't really know if there's new technology I need with audio.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

              Hi guys

I'm moving into a new house and will be looking to purchase a TV for the basement that's currently unfinished that will essentially be my "man cave" so to speak. I used to have a Vizo 65" that wasn't 4k that we bought in 2016 but I gave that to my brother when my wife and I moved since we didn't need it in the place we were living. I'm currently using my father in laws Sony maybe 55" that has 4k HDR from ~2018. I forget the model but it may have been a bravia. Anyway, does anyone have suggestions on what I should buy that will be best suited for PS5 gaming? I'm not too TV savvy. All I know is I should be looking for 120 HZ, HDR, and at least one 2.1 HDMI port. I don't know if OLED, LCD, or any of that is better than the other.

I'm looking for a 65" at the $1,000 price point. I can go just a tad over but I don't want to get into that $1300 range. All I will pretty much use the TV for is gaming and watching sports. I don't really watch movies so I don't need any of the crazy fancy effects that come with TV's. I also don't really care what brand it is just whatever is solid at my price point. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

105w is fine, your rears and side need up to 100w. If you go to 150, you could blow them if you turned it up too high. Unless you want to feel the bass from all sides, 1 sub will be fine. I would go with 4 speakers in the ceiling. 2 just doesn't do it much justice and you would need to put them above your seating location. With 4 you can surround your seats. I didn't go with sides and just did 5.1.4. It works out well for my area.

Speaker wire isn't that big of a deal as long as you don't go too thin. Just get in-wall, should be cl2 rated, and you will be fine. I used monoprice wire when I wired my previous house.

Can I run 7.1.4 with the receiver I have now, or would I need 11 channel? Just saw the sticker price of the 11 channel and I'm not sure I need to spend an extra grand, so I guess it's 5.1.4 vs. 7.1.2, right? I could save a few hundred with the 4 ceiling speakers, but the idea of side speakers feels more conventional. Open to your thoughts, and others.

And do those ceiling speakers work to provide the Atmos effect? Sorry, new at this ...

That will definitely do the job. I'd recommend doing more than 1 sub to help with pressurizing the room and also spreading out the bass. I personally use 3 subs.

Those ceiling speakers will work fine. 5.2.4 is better than 7.2.4. Btw if any of you guys are ordering from Best Buy, let me know first please, I make full commission on anything sold there.

As Scott said 5.1.4 is always going to be better. For atmos, you need 4 ,speakers to move the sound around from side to side and forward backward. You just won't get much out of 2 speakers. With 7 floor level speakers you aren't getting 7 channels of audio as the source is only 5 channels, so the back speakers are replicated on the sides or split as best as possible by the receiver. Dolby recommends 5.1.4 over 7.1.2.

I was confused over that when I put mine in because it goes against initial thoughts before atmos was available. Ceiling speakers are the same thing as atmos. So you don't need anything special for the ceiling speakers as the receiver will handle playing atmos through them.

You guys are LEGIT - thank you! And that 5.2.4 setup still works on the 9 channel Denon, which is awesome.

To make it a wash, I could go with a cheaper SVS sub - like this one, and get 2 for $200 more:

Is that what you guys would do, or is the other model too good to pass on? I feel like 5.2.4 is optimal, and now I just need to make the numbers work without sacrificing on quality.

Scott, Bestbuy is a real possibility. I'm waiting on the Sony XR85X95J to drop, and then I'll probably grab their credit card just to take advantage of the rewards or the 12 mo. no finance. Feel free to DM me on how to use you if and when I get there.

Ill keep an eye out to see when it drops. Whenever you’re ready just let me know, we can coordinate everything.

Would the Sonos Arc still be the best soundbar to pair with the LG CX, or is there other soundbars that are cheaper that deliver just as good of performance?

This setup will be in a bedroom and wont feature a sub or any extra speakers.

Not gonna find anything better for cheaper.
