I loved the first book, enjoyed the second, and regretted putting myself through the third. The movie is fantastic, but feels very rushed. They cut so much for the sake of time (I assume) and it hurts the overall presentation of the story.

It is better than every game that has ever come before it, and is the new benchmark for all games to follow. It is nothing short of a work of art. -

I agree with this. I mentioned it either in this thread or the recently watched movies thread: I felt that there were important plot points that were ignored by the film.
These aren't "oh, why didn't they do this because it's in the book" arguments. These are "you can't expect me to understand a person's reasons/motivations for such an action when you completely ignore the triggers for that reason/motivation" arguments.
Knowing the book, I was able to understand reasoning in the film. Without the book, I would have thrown my arms in the air and asked for those reasons.
It doesn't mean you can't understand the film. But, I like detail. I don't enjoy a film when it tells me how something happens without explaining why it happens."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: The Hunger Games (movie) - March 23rd
I agree that you get more out of the movies if you read the books first. I think the movie can still very enjoyable without having the book first, but there are some subtleties that you will only get with having read the book.
One problem the movie had was simply how the book was made. The book is completely from Katniss' perspective, and much of the story telling revolves around her thoughts of the situation she is in and the people around her. The movie tries to get around this by showing other events taking place, but I can see how it may not all translate well to a viewer who hasn't read the books.
Bottom line it was a good movie, but there is more to get out of it if you read the book first.Comment

Hmm... good to know. I think I'll pick it up at Wal-Mart or something and take a look at it this weekend... hopefully the missing plot points don't kill it too much.I agree with this. Last question. Is the shaky cam effect very distracting while viewing?
Thanks

If you are referring to the shaky cam during the fight scenes, yes. Basically ruined the second part of the movie for me.
I enjoyed everything up until the actual games started.Comment

Does the blu ray feature an extended cut? I didn't see anything about a director's cut or anything like that.Comment

Picked it up from red box, better then I was expecting.
My only problem is the movie did nothing to really make me want to see a sequel, they could have ended it right there and I would have been fine. Unlike something like Harry Potter or whatever.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
